Jason Aldean Defends Anti-Woke Anthem ‘Try That In A Small Town’ From Liberal Backlash – ‘This One Goes Too Far’

Jason Aldean

Back in May, we reported on the conservative country music star Jason Aldean’s new anti-woke anthem “Try That In A Small Town.” While the song didn’t receive much backlash from the left at the time, that all changed last weekend, when the music video for the song was released.

While the music video will appear benign enough to many, it was enough to cause liberal heads to explode, and the backlash became so great that CMT has pulled it from its rotation of music videos that is played on the network. Now, Aldean is firing back to defend both his song and its music video from the hate it is receiving from the left.

But first, check out the music video for yourself in the video below.

Aldean Defends Anti-Woke Song

On Tuesday afternoon, Aldean took to social media to defend both himself and his song in a lengthy statement.

“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” began Aldean, 46. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”

Aldean went on to point out that he was the performer playing at the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire on his audience, killing 60 people and wounding 413 more.

“As so many pointed out, I was present at Route 91-where so many lost their lives- and our community recently suffered another heartbreaking tragedy,” he continued. “NO ONE, including me, wants to continue to see senseless headlines or families ripped apart.”

Aldean concluded his statement by explaining what “Try That In A Small Town” is really about.

“‘Try That In A Small Town,’ for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief,” he stated. “Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences. My political views have never been something I’ve hidden from, and I know that a lot of us in this Country don’t agree on how we get back to a sense of normalcy where we go at least a day without a headline that keeps us up at night. But the desire for it to- that’s what this song is about.”

‘Try That In A Small Town’

“Try That In A Small Town” immediately resonated with many Americans upon its release because its lyrics called out how despicable it is that it has become normal in today’s U.S. to hear about things like people being sucker-punched on the sidewalks and elderly women being car-jacked. In the song, Aldean rightfully points out that the kinds of things that are going on in American cities across the country would never fly in small towns.

“Well, try that in a small town / See how far ya make it down the road / ‘Round here we take care of our own / You cross that line, it won’t take long / For you to find out, I recommend you don’t / Try that in a small town,” Aldean sings in the chorus.

Aldean told The Bobby Bones Show earlier this year that “Try That In A Small Town” resonated with him personally from the moment he first heard it.

“Everyday you turn on the news and see something crazy happened and a new heartbreaking story,” he explained.

Aldean’s Conservative Views

Aldean is no stranger to being the target of liberal backlash, as he is one of the only celebrities out there who has been open about his strong conservative views. In a 2021 interview, Aldean opened up about what it’s like to be a supporter of Donald Trump in the liberal entertainment world.

“At some point it’s gotten to where if you’re a conservative in this business, you’re not allowed to speak,” Aldean said at the time, according to Music Mayhem. “Trust me, I have a lot of friends in this business that think the way I think, and a lot of them are really scared to stand up and say anything for fear of backlash or whatever the case may be.”

“To me, it’s hard for to go lay my head down at night with a clear conscience, feeling like I’m a coward for not saying the things that I want to say, or I feel like need to be said,” he continued.

It’s unfortunate that Aldean has once again found himself bring targeted by the hateful liberal mob, and that CMT has responded by pulling his new music video. We can only hope that Aldean stays strong in the face of this backlash, and that he continues to be a voice for the millions of conservative Americans that are tragically underrepresented in the entertainment world!

  1. I was just thinking if this is not a tactic by the left to get rid of anything they perceive as conservative. Boycott CMT what is the outcome the loss of an outlet for country music, Budlight was a conservatives beer now what the brand is destroyed, and finally defund the police they are so villified many are leaving and few are joining. All 3 examples, mission accomplished.
