It May Soon Be A Crime To Insult a Police Officer In Kentucky, If New Bill Passes

Insulting a police officer in the state of Kentucky may soon be a crime, if a new bill is passed into law.

New Bill Will Make It A Crime To Insult Kentucky Cops

Senate Bill 211, which was drafted in response to the violent riots that took place last summer in the state, passed out of a Senate committee by a 7-3 vote. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Danny Carroll (R-Benton), who is a retired police officer, according to Fox News.

“In these riots, you see people getting up in officers’ faces, yelling in their ears, doing everything they can to provoke a violent response,” Carroll said.

“I’m not saying the officers do that, but there has to be a provision within that statute to allow officers to react to that,” he added. “Because that does nothing but incite those around that vicinity and it furthers and escalates the riotous behavior.”

Louisville’s Anti-Police Riots

Louisville, which is the largest city in Kentucky, was plagued by anti-cop riots all last summer over the death of Breonna Taylor, who was fatally shot last March during a police raid inside her home.

Carroll made sure to add that the bill has nothing to do with limiting lawful protest “in any way, shape, form or fashion.”

“This country was built on lawful protest, and it’s something that we must maintain — our citizens’ right to do so. What this deals with are those who cross the line and commit criminal acts,” he explained.

What The Bill Says

The bill states that a person is guilty of disorderly conduct — a Class B misdemeanor — if they accost, insult, taunt, or challenge “a law enforcement officer with offensive or derisive words, or by gestures or other physical contact, that would have a direct tendency to provoke a violent response from the perspective of a reasonable and prudent person.”

While the bill has it’s supporters, others are against it.

“I don’t believe that any of my good officers are going to be provoked to a violent response because somebody does a ‘Yo mama’ joke or whatnot,” State Senator David Yates (D) told the Louisville Courier Journal.

Police get less respect than ever these days, so a bill like this might be in order after all.

  • All of my family were officers. Way back to my grandfathers and uncle. I worked in records..Processing reports, finger printing, auto desk and curfew center.I was starting to take classes to become a cop. Husband KIA VN..had to stop going to school. 15 years later I started working at the PD. I do know what goes on in the field. When I printed sex offenders I had to hold in my anger. I really wanted to start breaking fingers. Breaking fingers=lose job.
Thank you for serving the people.

  • Police protect us, and the vast number of them are good and decent people, just trying to do their jobs. They have the potential of putting their lives on the line, and their paychecks should reflect that possibility. The risk of death, disability, loss of limbs/eyesight, psychological trauma, mob attacks, vendettas against them, lawsuits against them, and public scorn are reasons that deserve respect from the public. Only the Left tries to make the police out to be "evil" (and ALL of them!) with all the "-isms" in the book, because the police enforce the laws of our country, and the left hates our country...how hypocritical, the Left demands respect, but they are the last to give it....

  • 3 Men Walk Free After 20 Years in Prison for NYC Murders They Didn’t Commit
Three men returned home Friday after spending more than twenty years in prison for two New York murders a judge now says they never committed. George Bell, Rohan Bolt and Gary Johnson were convicted of robbing a New York City check-cashing service, and killing the owner and a NYPD officer who worked security at the business in 1996. But the Queens District Attorney’s Conviction Integrity Unit found some evidence hadn’t been presented in the case, including claims from a member of the “Speedstick” gang that indicated the gang may have been responsible for the crime. The trio were released on recognizance bond Friday as an investigation into whether their convictions should be overturned continues.
“The constitutional safeguards in our criminal justice system failed here, and the result has deprived everyone involved of the certainty and finality of justice in this case,” integrity unit director Bryce Benjet said.
    "And Justice for All"
Halls of justice painted green, money talking
Power wolves beset your door, hear them stalking
Soon you'll please their appetite they devour
Hammer of justice crushes you, overpower

Justice is lost, justice is raped, justice is gone
Pulling your strings, justice is done
Seeking no truth, winning is all
Find it so grim, so true, so real

  • The fbi confirms that many police forces are harboring klan members and white supremacists. Plus they are killing people of color 3x more often than whites. They are public servants. Serve and protect is their job; never punish, deliver to the justice system. If they want to be soldiers they can join the military. In many districts they have less training to be licensed than a hairdresser. Yes , really

  • I am very conservative person. I also have worked in law enforcement and corrections and this is the most ridiculous bill ever it resembles to me the dumocrat cancel culture attitude. I grew up with the old adage of sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. To me this bill is a move more towards a police state instead of a free society. If the new generation of law enforcement officer are so sensitive and triggered by being insulted not assaulted bit insulted they shouldn't be police. And the state and this bill is the same as an enabling parent who spoils a drug addict child too sensitive to handle real world.
