On Monday, liberal Fox News pundit Geraldo Rivera blasted President Joe Biden’s plan to combat ‘gun violence,’ calling it “preposterous.”
Rivera told host Martha MacCallum that the city of Chicago alone showed that Biden’s proposed solution was not nearly enough to solve much.
MacCallum noted that polling data showed voters were not happy with the way Biden was handling increasing crime, and said “As a result, Democrats appear to be having a come-to-Jesus moment on this.”
“The president is scrambling to get a handle on what’s going on,” MacCallum added.
Rivera chimed in, “I didn’t mean to be rude to the president, but it is preposterous when you compare the scale of what he’s offering to do with the nature of the problem.”
Rivera observed that since Biden’s speech there had been 40 murders in Chicago alone. Most of the fatalities were young black men.
“Homicide is the leading cause of death among young black men,” Rivera said.
“In Chicago, there’s 117,000 gang members versus 12,000 or 13,000 cops,” Rivera continued. “The gangsters outnumber the cops 10 to 1.”
“To think a schoolyard program will do something to alleviate the blood flow, this is the civil rights issue of our day,” he continued.
Rivera then declared, “There’s a ghetto civil war going on.”
But if you thought Rivera would make a conservative argument defending the Second Amendment, you’d be wrong.
Rivera then called for “massive federal and state involvement” and a national “stop and frisk” policy.
“The schoolyard programs are wonderful,” Rivera finished. “They’re not going to stop this bloodshed, Martha.”
Rivera tweeted, “Homicide is the leading cause of death among young Black men in America. It is the #CivilRightsIssueOfOurTime.”
“A joint federal, state and local effort urgently needed. Constitutional implementation of stop & frisk, massive use of Rico. #GhettoCivilWar” he ended his Twitter post.
NBC Chicago reports that murders in the Second City are way up over the last two years: “Chicago has seen at least 336 homicides for the first six months of the year, just two more than at this point in 2020 but 33 percent more than 2019’s 252 homicides, according to an analysis by the Sun-Times.”
