On Sunday, Fox News host Chris Wallace took House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to task for criticizing President Donald Trump’s response to COVID-19 while she urged people in late February to visit Chinatown in San Francisco.
Whoops Nancy!
“That’s what we’re trying to do today is to say, everything is fine here. Come, because precautions have been taken,” Pelosi said on February 24. “We think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.”
The next day, San Francisco declared a state of emergency over COVID-19.

Wallace asked Pelosi, “If the president underplayed the threat in the early days, Speaker Pelosi, didn’t you as well?”
“No,” Pelosi replied. “What we’re trying to do is to end the discrimination, the stigma, that was going out against the Asian-American community. In fact, if you will look, the record will show that our Chinatown has been a model of containing and preventing the virus.”

Pelosi Flat Out Isn’t Telling the Truth
Pelosi claimed, falsely, “So, I’m confident in our folks there and thought it was necessary to offset some of the things that the president and others were saying about Asian-Americans and making them a target. A target of violence across the country – hate crimes.”
But Trump never said anything at all, much less negative, about Asian-Americans. The President in no way encouraged discrimination against Chinese-Americans. This is patently untrue.
Trump did say he wanted to protect the Asian-Americans.
President Trump tweeted, “It is very important that we totally protect our Asian-American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!”

Pelosi is also wrong on her timeline. If she was encouraging people to visit Chinatown in San Francisco in late February, President Trump didn’t refer to coronavirus as a “Chinese virus” until March 16.
Keep spinning, Nancy. Keep spinning.
Here’s the video of Pelosi in Chinatown that she just defended as necessary to “end the discrimination” in interview with Chris Wallace #maga https://t.co/3q0S69EHuq
