A fearless dog named Haus is being credited with saving the life of a 7-year-old girl. Donya DeLuca says the family’s 2-year-old German Shepherd saved her daughter Molly from a rattlesnake poised to attack by taking the strike instead.
According to the local Fox news station in Tampa:
Wednesday afternoon, DeLuca said Molly was in the back yard with her grandma and Haus.
“She saw him jump back, and go forward, and jump back and go forward,” described DeLuca. “He was just, kind of, holding his ground.”
DeLuca said they quickly realized Haus was staring down a rattlesnake.
“Next thing we know is, there’s blood and he was limping and crying,” she said….
“Just based on temperament, he was standing up for my daughter, he was standing between, he didn’t budge,” said DeLuca. “He kept taking hits, she was on the other side of him, and so was my mom.”
DeLuca said she was grateful to the dog for saving her daughter’s life. “It is frightening to think it could have been my daughter. I don’t know if she would have made it.”
Haus is in the ICU unit of an animal hospital and is touch and go at the moment. Haus risking – and possibly sacrificing – his life to save a child is why dogs truly are man’s best friend.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to the family help pay the vet bill and bring Haus home.
