Atheists Tried to Ban Football Coach’s Prayer, So Students and Fans Prayed Instead

This is such a great story.

A high school football coach was targeted by an atheist group for praying along with his players, successfully lobbying the district to order him to cease and desist.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) took video of coach John Small, of East Coweta County High School, bowing his head during a team-led prayer. It was a player-led prayer.

The school board responded by sending a warning letter to coaches.

“They (coaches) cannot join hands, bow their heads, take a knee or commit another act that otherwise manifests approval with the students’ religious experience,” the board’s attorney instructed.

Did you catch that? They are forbidden from ‘taking a knee.’ The football coach. Are the irony alarm bells going off yet?

Students and fans by the hundreds at East Coweta decided to join in the prayer as a direct slap at the atheist group.

“In response,” Fox News reported, “the players joined hundreds of students and fans at their final game in an even bigger prayer than usual.”

How big? About 400 prayers were sent out.

“Our students have done a great job and our students took it upon themselves to organize a prayer with our students in the stands before the game,” Coach Small said. “Instead of it being 100 players praying, it turned into 400 students praying.”

“That’s their right and we are going to support them in that.”

Small warned the atheist group that telling teenagers what they can and cannot do regarding prayer isn’t going to work.

“It has really turned into a positive because at the end of the day, we are trying to teach students about leadership and they should be the ones taking the charge on it anyway,” he explained.

Well done, East Coweta student body, fans, and coaches. Standing up to bullies, especially godless bullies, is something this country needs to see a little more often.

The Eighth Amendment to our Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.
No unarmed American should die without a trial for the crime of selling an untaxed cigarette.

  • Sruss745, AMEN!!! We MUST stand up to their tyrannical dictating to us what we can and cannot do. They have no LEGITIMATE authority to do so and that includes any libtard, progressive, Demonazi judge! They are to interpret the law according to the Constitution! Not make up laws as they choose - that is judicial activism, not LEGITIMATE authority.

  • I am not a religious person but I am sick and tired of these damn Atheists trying to force their belief on me ! Shut you damn mouths and enjoy what you believe !

  • These belligerent, aggressors are also not “Atheists” as they claim, because Atheism is just non-belief or doubt in the existence of God, and there is no passion in non belief or doubt. What then drives their fiery activism in opposition to people believing in God, even murdering them where the government is Atheist ( Communist )? The two main sources behind passion and zeal are Love and Hate, and it is obvious which one of these feeds the fire of these anti-God zealots ! They are God Haters as the Bible describes them in Romans 1:30. They are also part of the End Times Jewish, Anti-Christ waging war against the Jewish Christ, Jesus. And so we see history coming full circle, with the End times Anti-Christ having the same identity as the Anti-Christ that had Jesus murdered and persecuted his followers. What a marvelous confirmation that the Bible is THE BOOK OF TRUTH !

  • If the brainless atheists claim not to believe in God or any fake god, why do behave like a cult?

  • Was this prayer before the 35-28 loss to Pebblebrook, the 28-14 loss to Campbell, or the 30-28 loss to Newman?

Was God was betting on the other team?

  • No, just trying to point out that God doesn't get involved in high school athletic events.

Preparation, skill and luck determine the outcome. Some people feel that they can influence their luck with prayer. God doesn't care if you win or lose your football game, and he isn't going to get involved.

  • You are so clueless -
Teams don't pray to win, they pray for safety, they pray for sportsmanship, they pray to be led to "Choose the Right" in their lives, they pray for the Lord to help them play their best, win or lose,
they pray to enjoy the game. And because they prayed before every game, they proved that the biggest losers are you atheists.

  • Nothing you mention needs to be done on field before a game. None of that needs to be done in public. After all, Jesus said that people should pray in private, not in public.

Try again. This time try using the words "witness for Jesus" and admit the real reason for praying in public.
