In a New Hampshire press conference, Senator Rand Paul was asked about exceptions to abortion. The Presidential hopeful turned the tables on the press and asked why they haven’t asked Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz questions pertaining to limitations on abortion, specifically with full term unborn children.
“Why don’t we ask the DNC: Is it okay to kill a seven-pound baby in the uterus? You go back and you ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she’s OK with killing a seven-pound baby that is not born yet. Ask her when life begins, and you ask Debbie when it’s okay to protect life. When you get an answer from Debbie, get back to me.”
Wasserman Schultz gave a fringe response that is very much out of line with the average American. Like Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of killing full term babies in his Philadelphia abortion clinic, the DNC Chairwoman believes in abortion on demand with no limitations.
“Here’s an answer. I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved. Period. End of story. Now your turn, Senator Paul. We know you want to allow government officials like yourself to make this decision for women — but do you stand by your opposition to any exceptions, even when it comes to rape, incest, or life of the mother? Or do we just have different definitions of ‘personal liberty’? And I’d appreciate it if you could respond without ’shushing’ me.”
The head of the DNC stated her support for abortion on demand up to the moment of birth. Wasserman Schultz wants no government involvement in abortion, except that she would like government subsidies to fund these children’s deaths. This viewpoint is rather extreme, even rebuked by most abortion advocates.
Senator Paul was later on CNN discussing abortion. Paul reaffirmed his support of the unborn and highlighted how Wasserman Schultz is completely outside of the mainstream on her extreme viewpoint.
“Sounds like her answer is yes, that she’s okay with killing a seven-pound baby,” he said.
Paul went on to say that “even most of my friends who are pro-choice” are opposed to such abortions, but acknowledged that “there’s a bit of doubt and discussion [about abortions] earlier in the pregnancy.”
“But Debbie’s position, which I guess is the Democrat Party’s position, that an abortion all the way up until the day of birth would be fine, I think most pro-choice people would be really uncomfortable with that,” he added. “So I don’t know — I really think she’s got some explaining to do.”
The press often asks Republicans to own or distance themselves from other Republican comments regarding abortion. Do you believe they will ask Democrats whether they embrace the DNC Chair’s rubber stamping of infanticide. Please comment below.
