Last week proved that the “blue wave” so many pundits expected was less than earth-shattering. Democrats performed below average in the House and failed to retake the Senate. In addition to the uncertainty in Florida, the race for the Arizona Senate seat between Kyrsten Sinema and Martha McSally managed to cause some chaos of its own. McSally was initially leading the race, but nearly a week later, Sinema has emerged the victor.
According to Arizona Central:
“Sinema’s unbreakable hold on Maricopa County, along with her overwhelming support in Martha McSally’s Tucson-based congressional district, gave Sinema an edge Republicans could not erase in the race for Arizona’s open U.S. Senate seat. The Associated Press called the Senate race for Sinema on Monday evening and Republican McSally tweeted her congratulations to Sinema.”
Throughout her campaign, public comments from Sinema’s past – with varying degrees of craziness – were brought to light.
She “doesn’t care” if Americans join the Taliban, more relevant to her race, she spoke poorly of the people she wanted to elect her.
She told a crowd, “You know, all of us who have been in Arizona for quite some time — people like myself, who are native-born — will remember learning in second- or third-grade about the five ‘Cs.’ You guys remember the five ‘Cs’? Cotton, cattle, citrus, climate, and copper. Well, I think we should add a sixth, and it’s called ‘crazy.'”
And did I mention that video above was but the fifth released showing Sinema mocking the residents of her state? In other videos she refers to Arizona as the “meth lab of democracy,” tells an audience that Arizona “should serve as a warning symbol for each of you,” and complaining that Arizona is famous “in a not good way… we’re famous in a Lindsay Lohan kind of way. Not good.”
Despite that, the voters of Arizona chose a candidate who believes them to all be a bunch of meth heads over McSally. Seriously: she once referred to her state as a “meth lab of democracy.” Take a look:
Outgoing Republican Jeff Flake, a rabid Trump hater, congratulated Sinema for flipping his seat from RINO to Democrat.

Of course Flake is happy that an enemy of the current administration was elected over McSally.
While Democrats took back the House, on the whole the election was not a sweeping repudiation of the current Congress. On CNN’s coverage, Van Jones called the results “heartbreaking,” while Jake Tapper observed that “there is no blue wave.” Even more interesting, Tapper noticed that it was mainly anti-Trump Republicans that lost their races, meaning that the Republicans in the next Congress will be even more pro-Trump.

Such an upset this was for Democrats that even a Republican candidate who died last month won his race in Nevada.
