Legendary Democratic strategist James Carville slammed far-left progressives and their “defund the police” rhetoric and “stupid wokeness” for significant defeats in Virginia on Election Day.

Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin, Jason Miyares, who will become the first Latino to hold the office of Attorney General, and Winsome Sears, who will become the first black woman to hold the office of Lieutenant Governor, swept statewide offices in Virginia for the first time since 2009.

Carville, in an interview with PBS NewsHour on Wednesday, pointed fingers at far-left members of the Democrat Party for those losses and others across the country.

“What went wrong is stupid wokeness. Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Washington,” he surmised.

“I mean this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools, people see that,” added Carville. “And it really has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats.”

Carville: ‘Stupid Wokeness’ Is Killing Democrats

James Carville, at one point Bill Clinton’s closest advisor, mocked the far-left progressive faction of the party such as the anti-law enforcement Squad or liberals who insist on snappy catchphrases over actual tangible results.

“Some of these people need to go to a woke detox center or something,” Carville joked.

He added, “We got to change this and not be about changing dictionaries and change laws.”

Carville refused to let up.

He suggested the woke ideology is driving average Americans away because they simply can’t relate to such ridiculousness.

“It’s just really — has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats,” he said. “They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”

Woke Culture Is A Problem For The Left

Carville has long been warning his party about the shifting mood amongst voters since Biden took office, saying their “metropolitan arrogance” and “urban smugness” were going to hurt their chances in future elections. 

“I think speak plain English and just what David [Axelrod] said if the nature of being a Democrat is you respect everybody and particularly respect people’s labor,” he said.

“So often, Democrats come across with this metropolitan arrogance, urban smugness that people feel, and it hurts us,” added Carville.

And this isn’t the first time Carville has slammed woke culture either.

In an interview with Vox several months ago, the Democrat strategist warned that his party was too afraid to admit “wokeness” culture is a major issue when it comes to messaging to the American people.

“‘Wokeness’ is a problem and everyone knows it,” he said. “It’s hard to talk to anybody today — and I talk to lots of people in the Democratic Party — who doesn’t say this.”

“But they don’t want to say it out loud,” the Democrat legend admitted. “They’ll get clobbered or canceled.”

Barack Obama, President Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who did their best to rescue crucial elections in Virginia this week by campaigning for the Democrats, all got clobbered.

Gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe got canceled.
