Dan Crenshaw on Pledge of Allegiance: ‘We Must Appreciate Who We Are as Americans and What Brings Us Together’

By Maureen Mackey | July 10, 2019

In a Minnesota city this week, protesters came out in force because of the city council’s controversial decision to end the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of meetings — and instead to say the pledge only before special occasions.

The St. Louis Park City Council announced its decision after a unanimous vote on June 17, according to a Fox News report.

The amendment to the council’s rules was seen as an effort to serve a more “diverse community.”

“We concluded that in order to create a more welcoming environment to a diverse community, we’re going to forgo saying the Pledge of Allegiance before every meeting,” Tim Brausen, a council member, said ahead of the vote, Fox News also reported.

But conservatives and others have big problems with this — and, in a surprise no doubt to the city council members themselves, some 100 citizens showed up, waved American flags and chanted “USA!” to try to get the council to change its mind on the issue.

Speaking to host Sean Hannity of Fox News’ “Hannity” on Wednesday night, Rep Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) — a former Navy SEAL officer — declared, “We must appreciate who we are as Americans and what brings us together.”

It isn’t about skin color, or ethnicity, or other things, he added — it’s about our shared beliefs and commitments as American citizens of this great nation.

Noted faith leader Franklin Graham said in a tweet about the issue, “I’m thankful for people who are passionate about our country! There was a large turnout to show their disapproval of the St. Louis Park City Council in Minnesota voting to no longer have the Pledge of Allegiance at the opening of its meetings.”

“They canceled the pledge to make a ‘more welcoming environment,’ he added. “The pledge says, ‘I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America & to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, w/ liberty & justice for all.’ Sounds welcoming to me!”

  • Why don't they drop Omar instead of the pledge. I had to say the pledge in high school 50+ years ago and am better for it. Did any of these councilmen serve their country? Sorry state of affairs between this and the attacks on Americans who are showing support for our President and country. RVN 68-69

  • So, our elected officials: city, county, state and federal who took the oath of office can just willy nilly decide which laws and pledges they will follow? I don't think so...I don't vote for any one who is anti-American or who doesn't support the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. If they want something that reflects their former country they should move out of the USA & renounce their citizenship!!!!!

  • The Democrats have gone too far and I cannot see any reconciliation with them. Their actions are leading us straight to a bloody civil war.

  • America love it or leave it! If you don't like the laws, rules or ideas of this country then PACK YOUR BAGS AND GO! I am sure that you can find a country that will let come in. But you for damn sure won't be able to do or get by with the crap you can or do here.

  • USA!USA!USA! Trump/Pence 2020 all the way ! Loser (D)'s go away !

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

I also took an oath in the military...I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me.

There was no expiration date on both of those above ! God, Family, Country and Guns !
