Flashback: Conan O’Brien Refers to Haiti as Shithole

Late-night TV host Conan O’Brien filmed a special last month in Haiti as a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s then-recent comments calling the country a “s***hole.”

Conan “proved” otherwise – by staying at a luxury resort on the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.

Some internet sleuths quickly identified Conan’s location as the Wahoo Bay Beach Resort, which an employee confirmed. One posted a photo captioned “Celebrity moment : picture with O’Brien Conan and staff. TAKE THAT DONALD TRUMP.”

That hotel costs $254 a night – in a country where the average person makes just above $400 a year. This would be the equivalent of a room costing in the tens of thousands of dollars per night in America.

In another post, O’Brien gave a man a MAGA parody hat that read “Haiti is great already,” while 2/3rds of the nation’s citizens live on less than $2 a day.

He also gave Haitians a chance to roast Trump for accurately describing their country.

It was a bit bizarre to see – given that it seemed too obvious that Conan was only pretending that Haiti is “already great” while America supposedly never was. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that Conan is well aware what the rest of the island he visited looks like.

Case in point: Conan joking about Haiti before Trump was president.

“Haiti, you just celebrated your 200th year of independence” he said, beginning a joke in an episode that may have aired in January of 2004. “Congratulations – now make a wish and blow out your burning pile of tires.”

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” has gotten liberals to attack America as “never great,” praise Haiti as a paradise, laud North Korea for their “diplomacy,” and prioritize illegal immigrants over American citizens.

What’s next? If Trump tweets that 2+2=4, will that spark a national debate?
