A belligerent college student was taken down by another student — who is also an an Army soldier — after drawing a knife and threatening to kill everyone in the library.
The incident started when 20-year-old Leo Labogen was being loud and obnoxious on his cell phone inside the University of Nebraska library. Fellow student Brandon Valle asked if he would take the conversation outside so other students could study without disturbance.
Instead, Labogen drew a knife and began making threats.
“He’s screaming out he’s going to kill us and slit people’s throats,” Valle told local reporters. “I knew it was a threat and this person had crossed a line. So it was time to do something about it.”
Police arrived and took him into custody, charging him with with attempted felony assault and three counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
Jennifer McDanal who was also studying in the library and others are calling Valle a hero. “Knowing there are people on campus who are ready to help out and do what’s necessary to keep people safe is a relief.”
When he asked if he felt like a hero, Brandon just looked down and shook his head. “No,” he said. “No, absolutely not.”
