John Cooper, the frontman of the Grammy-nominated Christian rock band Skillet, is speaking out this week to slam the singer Demi Lovato for her song “Swine,” which was released as a form of protest on the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 2022 overturning of Roe V. Wade.

Cooper Rips Lovato

While appearing on the PluggedIn podcast to promote his new book “Wimpy, Weak, & Woke,” Cooper brought up Lovato’s pro-abortion song.

“It was her sort of anti-pro-life song. And in that one song, she encapsulates so much evil,” Cooper said. “In that song, she supplies us with the best pro-life argument we always give, which is that people are not killing their babies because they can’t afford it. They’re killing their babies because they want to have sex with ‘whoever I want to, whenever I want to. I don’t wanna use birth control. I should be able to do whatever I want.'”

“It is pure narcissism, pure evil, and then she’s screaming at all the people who are saying that this is murder,” he added, going on to call on parents to not ignore Lovato’s song and instead “have those conversations with your kids. It’s gonna require some work for you to understand the worldview. But for my kids, when they began to understand those things, they were, like, ‘This is horrific.'”

Lovato Promotes ‘Swine’

Lovato, who identifies as non-binary, confirmed last year that “Swine” was meant to be a rallying cry for reproductive rights.

“It’s been one year since the Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle the constitutional right to a safe abortion, and although the path forward will be challenging, we must continue to be united in our fight for reproductive justice,” she wrote on Instagram. “I created ‘SWINE’ to amplify the voices of those who advocate for choice and bodily autonomy.”

“I want this song to empower not only the birthing people of this country, but everyone who stands up for equality, to embrace their agency and fight for a world where every person’s right to make decisions about their own body is honored,” she added at the time.

Lyrics of “Swine” include: “God forbid, I wanna suck whatever the f*** I wanna/God forbid, I wanna f*** whoever the f*** I want/And if he cums, I guess I gotta be a mother.”

“F*** what I think, I don’t know a thing/The government knows my body/No, it’s okay, it’s better this way, I’m only a carbon copy/Even if I’m dying, they’ll still try to stop me,” the song continues.

Lovato’s Anti-Trump Song

Unsurprisingly, Lovato was an outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In 2020, she wrote the song “Commander In Chief” to send a message to him.

“There’s been so many times that I’ve wanted to write the President a letter or sit down with him and ask him these questions,” she told CNN. “And then I thought, I don’t really actually want to do that and I thought one way that I could do that is writing a song and releasing it for the whole world to hear and then he has to answer those questions to everyone and not just me.”

Lovato is idolized by millions of young girls, so it’s both sad and disturbing that she’s using her platform to promote things like abortion. We applaud Cooper for speaking out against her, and we think that his criticisms were spot on!
