Hurricane Hermine is storming northern Florida and heading further north.

It’s the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida in over 11 years – and it’s following an unusual path that’s terrorizing the Florida panhandle.

Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency and mobilized the National Guard to help in the wake of the destructive storm.

Via CNN:

Hurricane Hermine made landfall early Friday in Florida with a furious mix of rain, whistling winds and surging waves — then weakened into a tropical storm as it wobbled toward Georgia.

Hermine, which had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, was the first hurricane to come ashore in Florida since Wilma struck 11 years ago.

It made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in the Big Bend area, a part of the Gulf Coast where the state’s peninsula meets the Panhandle.

For Floridians who remember the destruction of Andrew, Wilma, and others, hurricanes are no joke. Hermine is expected to dump at least 10 inches of rain in some parts of the state, and hundreds of thousands of Americans are already without power.

Experts even expect the unusual storm to create several tornadoes in its path!

With the flooding in Louisiana and Barack Obama’s poor leadership, the people of Florida and the East Coast need our prayers!
