Former Vice President Joe Biden said during the Democratic debate on Thursday that he didn’t “lock people up in cages” under his administration, a blatantly incorrect statement.
Biden was the first candidate to be questioned about the topic of immigration during the Democratic debate in Houston, Texas on Thursday night. Debate moderator Jorge Ramos began the discussion by calling out the former vice president, bringing up the fact that, as a presidential candidate in 2008, Biden supported wall construction on the southern border.
Ramos also brought up the fact that, under the Obama administration, three million foreign nationals were deported under Biden’s watch.
“Did you do anything to prevent those deportations? You’ve been asked this question before and refused to answer. So let me try once again. Are you prepared to say tonight that you and President Obama made a mistake about deportations? Why should Latinos trust you?” Ramos asked.
Biden began by calling the comparison between former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump “outrages.” However, Biden then made the bold claim that no people were placed in cages during his White House tenure.
“We didn’t lock people up in cages. We didn’t separate families. We didn’t do all of those things, number one,” he said.
The word “people” was likely a misstatement by the former vice president. To suggest that no people were locked up by Border Patrol or other Customs and Border Protection officials during Obama’s eight-year tenure would suggest that absolutely no border enforcement took place under his watch.
A quick glance at Customs and Border Protection data show thousands of foreign nationals were apprehended by Border Patrol each year Obama occupied the White House.
It may be more fair to assume that Biden meant to say “kids” rather than “people.” Numerous Democrats, for example, have balked at the immigration enforcement against family units, which has in the past resulted in the temporary caging and separation of immigrant children.
However, Biden’s statement is still false even if it was assumed he was referring to children.
Immigrant children were placed in cages during the Obama administration. In fact, pictures of caged kids from the Obama-era have continually resurfaced on the news as both Democrats and media outlets have erroneously tied the photos to the Trump administration.
Biden was also incorrect to say that no family separations took place during his time at the White House.
A deputy assistant attorney general under President Obama, Leon Fresco, revealed to a news outlet that some fathers were, in fact, separated from their children. However, it’s difficult to determine how many families exactly were separated during Obama’s tenure because the administration did not take record of it at the time.

Biden outright lied. Did he 'forget' that the Obama/Biden administration deported more illegals in his first 3 years in office than Trump has thus far? Did he 'forget' that cages and family separations DID occur during the Obama/Biden administration? No, it is a true statement, for it was Obama and his administration that put those illegal immigrant kids in cages, on bare and cold concrete floors, because Joe Biden wasn't President, so therefore he had no administration of his own, at least that's how Joe Biden sees it.
All the pictures of illegal immigrant kids in cages were taken during the Obama administration, strange that none can be found of illegal immigrant kids in cages during the Trump administration, since the liberal biased mainstream media constantly accuses President Trump of doing so, and since they can find no pictures of illegal immigrant kids in cages during Trump's administration, so they use the pictures taken during the Obama administration, in their failed attempt to prove that President Trump has done the same thing.
But that is how the liberal biased "Fake News" works, lies of accusations only, not an ounce of proof. But when the liberal biased media proclaims propaganda (lies) constantly, people finally start to believe them, and that is what the liberal biased mainstream media counts on, in their continuous campaign to destroy President Trump.
I didn't watch the debates. Quite frankly I thought it would be a waste of my time because I already know who I'm going to vote for, and I had better things to do, but I heard, that they were at each other's throats. Just what I expected. I'm glad I didn't watch. They were all trying to make the other one look bad in order to gain favor from the public and win the candidacy. Quite frankly, they all want the same thing; raise taxes, take away our guns, government controlled health care and let all the illegal aliens come into this country so the hard working citizens can support them and from what I understand, they also want us to pay for their medical treatment if they have a medical illness that their own country doesn't have a treatment for. Their all out of their freakin' minds and they're all losers. Save our country and VOTE REPUBLICAN. TRUMP IN 2020! MAGA and KAG.

I know that I should probably leave this out of my thoughts right now, but I can not in all fairness to the people of this great country, so here goes, all I have to say is that NO woman should ever be President of this country UNTIL other countries recognize there are smart women out there but we just don't have, at this time. Maybe when I am dead and gone there may be some out there, but that is not enough to deal with the rest of the countries male attitudes about women in power. Nuff said.

Why do you think the Obama cartel picked Joe Biden as their running mate? They knew he would be to slow and demented to ever know what was going on behind his back or if front of him. They picked an old demented fool that would be naive to the corruption going on around him. Biden might not have known about the detention camps, I'm sure he was let in on very little of the inner workings of that White House.
