On Saturday, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke told the New Hampshire Democratic Party State convention that he advocates for universal background checks, red flag laws and a gun buyback program. He even went so far as to admit that he has a desire for a national gun registry.
As you know, supporters of the Second Amendment worry about a national gun registration because it could lead to possible firearm confiscation. Although Democrats conclude gun registration will disarm criminals, it would actually disarm law-abiding gun owners.

O’Rourke: “This is a country that has produced the leadership that will ensure that we not only have universal background checks and red flag laws and end the sale of those weapons of war, but that we go the necessary steps further as politically difficult as they may be,” O’Rourke explained. “A gun registry in this country, licensing for every American who owns a firearm and every single one of those AR15s and AK47s will be bought back so they’re not on our streets, not in our homes, do not take the lives of our fellow Americans.”

Beto can’t seem to understand one cannot “buy back” something that one never owned in the first place. I’m pretty sure no matter how one might interpret the Second Amendment, there is nothing in there to suggest a national licensing program.
You can imagine the rest of the Democratic field is waiting to see how that polls before jumping on that bandwagon. In reality, they simply cannot deliver any of the gun control proposals they promise, and they know it. They say it to get a reaction from both sides, with the “unbiased” media squad going full cheerleader. Sorry, I’m not getting too riled up over some not-a-chance political utopian fantasy.

It is difficult to discern whether Leftists trying to out-lefty other liberals is just laughable, or downright dangerous for our country. I am inclined to believe that this can only be good for President Trump because whoever the Democratic nominee is will have committed themselves to impossible policy positions which cannot be walked back during the general election. These clowns are talking themselves into unelectability, so while their viewpoints are dangerous, I am choosing to laugh at their inanity. It is healthier than cowering in fear.

Criminals don’t follow laws or they wouldn’t be criminals. Law-abiding citizens are responsible firearm owners, period.
I assume the government already has a national gun registry. The government knows when you buy a gun and who you are when go through the background check. They’re supposed to destroy this information after you pass, and they probably do on the “background check system” system, but I highly doubt the NSA isn’t keeping these records on some classified system.
