Bernie Sanders Attacks Christian Trump Nominee for OMB

Should being a Christian preclude a person from holding public office?

The Constitution says no. But socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders certainly seems to think so.

Russell Vought is President Donald Trump’s nominee for Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. And during his confirmation hearing Wednesday, the socialist Sanders grilled Vought about a January 2016 post in which he called Islam a “deficient theology.” In Sanders’s opinion, the language Vought used was “Islamaphobic.”

Here’s a transcript of the exchange, courtesy of National Review:

Sanders: Let me get to this issue that has bothered me and bothered many other people. And that is in the piece that I referred to that you wrote for the publication called Resurgent. You wrote, “Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ, His Son, and they stand condemned.” Do you believe that that statement is Islamophobic?

Vought: Absolutely not, Senator. I’m a Christian, and I believe in a Christian set of principles based on my faith. That post, as I stated in the questionnaire to this committee, was to defend my alma mater, Wheaton College, a Christian school that has a statement of faith that includes the centrality of Jesus Christ for salvation, and . . .

At that point, Sanders cut Vought off and asked again if he believed that “people in the Muslim religion stand condemned.” As you can see in the video below, Vought attempted again and again to explain his position — but Sanders literally shouted over him.

This is unbelievable, unacceptable, and completely unconstitutional behavior on behalf of an elected official (emphasis added):

Sanders: You think your statement that you put into that publication, they do not know God because they rejected Jesus Christ, His Son, and they stand condemned, do you think that’s respectful of other religions?

Vought: Senator, I wrote a post based on being a Christian and attending a Christian school that has a statement of faith that speaks clearly in regard to the centrality of Jesus Christ in salvation.

Sanders: I would simply say, Mr. Chairman, that this nominee is really not someone who this country is supposed to be about.

Really? Someone who believes in God is not fit to serve a country that was founded on the principle of religious freedom? Someone who believes in God is not fit to serve a country whose Declaration of Independence literally says that our unalienable rights are endowed by our Creator? Really?

See, liberals like Sanders like to pretend that they’re tolerant of all religions. But the fact of the matter is that they’re tolerant of all religions except Christianity. And all while conveniently forgetting that the Founding Fathers prayed to Jesus Christ — not Allah. Bernie would never question a Muslim nominee in this way.

Then again, what do you expect from a socialist who demands that hardworking taxpayers fork over all their money to the government, while he buys beach houses and rakes in $1 million?

Thank God that Sanders wasn’t elected president.

Share if you believe that a Christian man like Russell Vought is perfectly fit to serve the United States of America!
