Ben Stiller Takes Digs at Michael Cohen on ‘Saturday Night Live’

By Zachary Leeman | March 3, 2019

“Meet the Parents” and “Zoolander” star Ben Stiller popped up on this week’s “Saturday Night Live” to portray Michael Cohen, the disgraced former lawyer who testified this week before Congress.

During his appearance, Cohen made many claims against President Donald Trump. He alleged the president is a racist and said Trump personally him pay off Stormy Daniels, a porn star who claimed she and the president had an affair. Trump denies this.

What was ironic about Cohen’s testimony before Congress and the nation is that he will soon be heading to prison for his previous lies to Congress.

Luckily, that irony did not go over the usually aggressively liberal heads of the “SNL” writers.

“Thank you for inviting me here today to correct the record under oath,” Stiller’s Cohen said in the cold open of the show, which was a mockup of the hearing this week.

“Of course, the first time I testified was also under oath. But this time, I, like, really mean it.”

Others present for Cohen’s testimony were also portrayed in the “SNL” cold open. Cast member Kenan Thompson played Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), while former cast member Bill Hader returned to the show to play Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

“For any other president, this hearing would be the most damning and humiliating moment of their lives,” said Thompson’s Cummings as he began the scene. “But for Trump, it’s just Wednesday.”

“For any other president, this hearing would be the most damning and humiliating moment of their lives.”

In another dig at Cohen, Stiller’s version of the personal lawyer at one point quoted the song “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia, a song about heartache.

“But now, I’m all out of faith,” Cohen’s Stiller said in his closing statement. “This is how I feel. I’m cold and I’m ashamed, lying naked on the floor. Illusion never changed into something real. I’m wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn, thank you.”

Ben Stiller has appeared as Cohen before on “SNL” in multiple episodes.

The appearances have become rare acting parts from the “Night at the Museum” star, as he’s recently turned his attention more to directing and producing.

The last film he starred in was released in 2017.

His last directing effort, the Showtime miniseries “Escape at Dannemora,” aired last year.
