Melania Trump Celebrates National Read a Book Day

Did you know that yesterday was “National Read a Book Day”?

With all the dramatic events unfolding in the news, including the rebuilding effort in Houston, Trump’s decision to end DACA, and the oncoming threat of Hurricane Irma, it’s hard to find uplifting stories.

Thankfully, Melania Trump isn’t going to let the bad news cycle distract her from her number one priority as First Lady: serving the children of our country.

Melania sent a collection of Dr. Seuss books to a school in each state on Wednesday in celebration of “National Read a Book Day.” The collection included classics, such as “The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

She also wrote a letter to students, highlighting the importance of reading. “Remember, the key to achieving your dreams begins with learning to read. Find what you enjoy, anything that interests you, and read about it,” read a portion of the letter.

Melania’s focus on children really is an inspiration. And notice: She encourages children to follow their passion. Melania doesn’t take a heavy-handed approach to children like Michelle Obama pushing her “healthy” school lunches on students.

This isn’t the first time Melania has put a focus on reading. On her first foreign trip as First Lady, she read to sick children in an Italian hospital. She also read a Dr. Seuss classic to children in a New York hospital back in March:

She truly is a gift in the White House.
