Obama is determined to undermine our security as much as he can in the last few remaining months of his presidency. As such, he has announced his intention to close Guantanamo Bay and transfer Gitmo prisoners at a furious pace. The latest outrage is the “humanitarian resettlement” of two bomb-makers to a small West African nation:
Two of Al Qaeda’s former explosives experts were just transferred out of Guantanamo Bay and sent to Senegal, the Defense Department confirmed Monday, marking the latest detainees to be shipped out of the prison camp despite the risk they could return to the battlefield.
The two Libyan former detainees were separately listed as threats to U.S. interests in Department of Defense documents obtained by Wikileaks and The New York Times.
Salem Abdu Salam Ghereby is believed to have fought coalition forces at Usama bin Laden’s Tora Bora complex in Afghanistan “and was associated with senior members of Al Qaeda.” Omar Khalif Mohammed Abu Baker Mahjour Umar was assessed to be likely to “immediately seek out prior associates and reengage in hostilities and extremist support activities” upon his release, according to a 2008 government document.
This BS statement from Secretary of State John Kerry reads like a MoveOn.org propaganda piece from 2008:
“The continued operation of the detention facility weakens our national security by draining resources, damaging our relationships with key allies and partners, and serving as a propaganda tool for violent extremists. We are taking all possible steps to reduce the detainee population at Guantanamo and to close the detention facility in a responsible manner that protects our national security.”
Actually, closing Guantanamo Bay weakens our national security. The Obama administration itself has admitted that terrorists released from Gitmo have killed Americans, and reports from the Director of National Intelligence admit that about 30% of released prisoners are either confirmed or suspected of returning to terrorism. The idea that closing Gitmo will somehow stop terrorism is laughable. And I think Obama has been damaging our relationships with key allies and partners on his own, especially when it comes to his feckless response to terrorism.
The countdown is on – 289 days until Obama is out of office and this nightmare ends.
