You Might Be Shocked To Learn How Young Many Founding Fathers Were When The Declaration Of Independence Was Signed

When you think young teenagers and early twenty-something men on the Fourth of July, your mind probably wanders to partying and keg stands instead of anything serious.

But it should instead remind you how shockingly young many were in America’s founding generation.

It Is Astounding How Young So Many Were In The Founding Generation

Let’s get the old folks out of the way first. Benjamin Franklin was 70-years-old in 1776, a time when many people didn’t live to be 70. The famous and fearless John Hancock was 39 and Thomas Jefferson was 33.

But after that? They were just kids, really. Jefferson was a relative elder statesman at 33.

Alexander Hamilton was 21. James Monroe was only 18-years-old!

So as you celebrate the independence of our still-young nation this Fourth, remember that despite the white wigs and stuffy-looking clothing, the generation who made America possible were very young too.

  1. This was when the "Youth"of the period, actually had a BRAIN . . . thise days have "Long Passed" . . . the youth of TODAY, makes that . . . SADLY . . . "Pretty Obvious". Most "30" Yr olds TODAY . . . "Couldn't" find their OWN AZZ, with "Both Hands, an a Seeing Eye Dog" !. Am I "Cynical" ? . . . you "Bet your Azz", I am ! ! !

  2. At least they demonstrate to be more intelligent than this generation whose only wanted to be on the streets yelling, protesting and intimidating unarmed people. Those groups sucking themselves in loosing their lives and time instead of being more productive, professionals and kindness. So for everyone who think that only their life matter I give them a big and loud BOO and BOOT.

  3. People back in those days were more mature at a younger age and understood that people had to work and be responsible for their lives. There wasn't the hand out there is today.

  4. what everyone seems to forget, there were WHITE slaves as well, James Monroe's father and Uncle were sold to 2 different persons, One to Va. the other to New York, Cromwell (England) needed to empty the Tower Of London, and he shipped many Scots and Irish over here, these Men were then to work off the cost incurred by the British. Since most were ilitteret, they worked long after debt paid, It's well known that other countries had slaves as well, these Men, women and some children were sold BY OTHER BLACKS to the Dutch who delivered them to Islands in Carribean and to other countries, if they were not bought and taken back to their land of origin they most likely would have been killed, or dumped into he ocean by the Dutch, these were horrible times for many and I know that several freed slaves were given land and house when freed, starting with the Lee's and Washington, also the family that lived behind a Church in Fairfax County Va., as for the White slaves , one of my ancestors was one, a MUNRO who is buried in western New York,

  5. These young men were ten times smarter than anyone in politics today. They had fore sight and thought things through before condemning or agreeing to anything. They new how to compromise and when to take their wins. Very intelligent bunch. To bad the politicians of today don't take a lesson from them. At 25 or 26 most of todays young men can't even tie their own shoes without help. Pathetic And the older politicians have their hands out for any freebe that they can get. They have all forgotten that they are there to represent the people that elected them not to line their own pockets.

  6. In addition, as a compromise with certain southern slave States that was needed to form the Union, Article I, Section 9, Clause 1 of the US Constitution provided that Congress could NOT limit the importation of "such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit" (ie. slaves) PRIOR TO 1808, ie. only 20 years after the Constitution was ratified. And sure enough, in 1808 Congress promptly banned any further importation of "such persons", ending the slave trade, though not slavery itself. So the intention from the start was to end, or at least phase out, slavery in America.

  7. This is what I find interesting and full of irony.

The black and white liberal / Democrats are always talking about how bad slavery was. And it was for many. However, why, if it was so bad, and they keep bringing it up as our original sin, why are they working sooooooo hard to keep blacks as slaves with their ‘slave master’ policies, on the democrat/liberal plantation????!

But mostly, when are blacks going to wise up/wake up , open their eyes and stop voting for these rotten lying charlatans. My God, it’s been over 70 years of the same! Stop it!!!!

  8. In 1776, young people weren't subjected to the indoctrination of government-run liberal public education and Marxist university professors. They weren't glued to their cell phones and the brain-numbing influences of social media. They weren't exposed to degenerate movies, music and negative activism. They were faced with adult life-challenges early on, which made them more mature and more aware.

  9. Surely things have changed – I am 81 years old, at age of 18 and out of high school you immediately became a productive member of society – nowadays you need not only an undergraduate degree but a masters or two which puts you around 26 before you earn your keep – and even then it is questionable. You also worked until 65 or older – now you take early retirement beginning around 55 and become a fulltime consumer producing little to nothing – not good.

  10. Maxine Waters knocking Independence Day, recently said that our forefathers did not have blacks in mind when they wrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Typical democrat who know nothing about our history or founding fathers. Many of those that signed the Declaration of Independence and our documents forming this nation wanted to free the slaves. We needed the 13 colonies to form this nation, but the southern slave owners would not sign unless they could remain slave owners. So they were forced to give in to the south. The founding fathers let it be known slavery would have to end shortly. Those southerners (democrats) would later refuse to obey republicans demands to end slavery, hence the Civil War. Though very few southerners actually had slaves, democrats lied to them and said the war was about protecting their land. Democrats are still lying to blacks as well as everyone else.

  11. The difference between the young "Founders" and today's youth was the education they had. Today's kids are not taught to criticality analyze what's actually happening and not given the learning tools to do so. This dumbing down process goes back a century and exploded in the 1960s. Thank your local school board for putting idiot anti-Americans in charge of your childrens`and America's future.

  12. Kids are being taught, successfully, that there is only one acceptable political party and only one acceptable political position. END PUBLIC EDUCATION ! ! !

  13. Richard Newman

Lets fix this, no members of congress over the age of 30 instead of a bunch of old people stuck there only because they have there hands where they should not be if you know what I mean and no more than three terms.
