Whoopi Goldberg Defends Maxine Waters – ‘After Four Years of Real Race-Baiting,’ Republicans Want To Expel Her

Whoopi Goldberg was quick to defend Rep. Maxine Waters on “The View” on Monday after the Democrat congresswoman was accused of inciting violence in Minneapolis, Minnesota over the weekend, when she urged protesters to get “more confrontational.”

Waters’ Controversial Comments

“We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business,” Waters said as she spoke about what will happen if Derek Chauvin is not convicted of the death of George Floyd.

Waters added that while she is “hopeful” Chauvin will be convicted of murder, she then said that if he isn’t, “we cannot go away,” according to Fox News.

Despite the fact that Democrats just impeached Donald Trump for a second time in the House for “inciting violence” with his words before the Capitol riots, they are rallying behind Waters. Republicans, however, are calling for her to be expelled from Congress, and this does not sit well with Goldberg.

Goldberg Sounds Off

“After four years of real race-baiting, I have to say I’m a little bit surprised that some Republicans would think that people wouldn’t recognize the difference,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “Joy, does it surprise you that some Republicans are calling to expel Maxine Waters from Congress for that statement?”

“No,” he cohost Joy Behar replied. “They’re trying to get off the hook for continuing the lie that Trump won the election, thus causing all sorts of problems. I don’t think Maxine meant anything by that except to say you have to stick with it and be there.”

Cohost Sara Haines then chimed in to say, “In regard to Maxine Waters, I do not think she should resign, but I don’t like the rhetoric at all.”

Goldberg Goes All-In

That’s when Goldberg went all-in to defend Waters.

“I just want to read this to you ‘If nothing happens, then we know we have not only to stay in the street, we have to fight for justice, but I’m hopeful we will get a guilty verdict.’ I just want to make sure that you heard what she said because that’s not calling for confrontation,” Goldberg said.

“Now people are saying, ‘Well, we should get Maxine Waters fired,'” she said. “Okay, I don’t believe that’s the way to go. I don’t think people should get fired. I think people should get fired up when they see things that are wrong. You don’t need to burn stuff down. Peaceful protesting works.”
