Virginia Sheriff Vows His Department Will Not Enforce Unconstitutional Gun Control Laws

There are many videos coming out of a rally in Virginia on Monday where thousands of law-abiding Americans stood up for their Second Amendment rights. These videos are destroying the false narratives spun by gun control advocates and Democrats. Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan’ s video is particularly pertinent.

Sheriff Vows To Protect Constitutional Rights

Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan was interviewed at the rally, appearing in uniform. Vaughan made it abundantly clear that if any bill passed in Virginia that unconstitutionally violated the law, his department would not enforce it.

“If the bills go through as proposed, they will not be enforced. They are unconstitutional,” insisted Vaughan.

Vaughan said his job is to protect the constitutional rights of the people at both the state or federal levels.

Sheriffs Reassure Citizens About 2nd Amendment Rights

When it comes to the 2nd Amendment and the potential to violate it, it’s not unusual for sheriff’s departments to step forward and reassure citizens that if state or federal governments undermine citizens’ constitutional rights through unconstitutional legislation, law enforcement will not enforce those particular laws.

Colorado Sheriff Steve Reams of Weld County last April assured citizens that he would go to jail himself before he would violate their constitutional rights. Colorado was also moving toward gun confiscation at the time via “Red Flag Laws” and local authorities took a stand against it.

Law Enforcement Should Be Commended for Putting People Before Politicians

Douglas County Commissioner Roger Partridge did the same thing, saying, “We’re putting a line in the sand for what we believe right now is support (for) constitutional laws.”

It is not unusual for local authorities to be the line between their constituents and overreaching government. Elected sheriffs are often the frontline against any unlawful encroachment on people’s rights by reckless political leaders.

Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan should be saluted for standing up for the rule of law, as should any other police officer who takes the same honorable path.
