Imagine for a moment that former president George W. Bush didn’t know the age of the United States of America. Or if he couldn’t simply do the math in his head while giving a speech. He’d be pilloried from media outlet to media outlet for being a dunce.
Obama however, does exactly that, and you’ll be lucky if anybody other than The Political Insider covers it.

President Barack Obama had trouble on Wednesday working out the math to determine the age of the country he has led for the last seven years, stammering that the United States is 250 years old.
The Second Continental Congress declared the independence of the U.S. in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776 – in the Declaration of Independence – making the country a hair older than 239-and-a-half.
Speaking at the University of Nebraska Omaha a day after his final State of the Union address to Congress, Obama complained that some Republicans in the audience failed to applaud when he insisted America is the world’s strongest and most powerful nation.
‘I mean, I understand why they wouldn’t want to give me credit for it – which is true,’ he said.
‘It’s because the United States of America, for two hundred, err – 50 – years, has been working to make us the strongest. But that should not be a controversial statement.
First off, Mr. President – they didn’t withhold applause because of the statement ‘America is the world’s strongest and most powerful nation.’ They withheld applause because you’re doing everything in your power to make sure America doesn’t remain the world’s strongest and most powerful nation.

He was rounding to the nearest 50 year increment. 250 years is correct. Usually with nations, you don’t care down to what month it is, or even what year. Usually when people talk about the life time of a country they talk about the age of the country as rounded to the nearest 50 years. The ONLY reason this is even being mentioned is because some people have an OCD thing about ALWAYS criticizing a president that they don’t like, no matter WHAT he says. So you got all these loons out here just LOOKING for a way to criticize Obama.
