Under President Donald Trump, 6.2 Million People Are Now Off Food Stamps

Since Donald Trump stepped foot in the White House, more than 6.2 million individuals have dropped off food stamps, according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

USDA data now shows that 6,268,285 individuals discontinued participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which is the umbrella program that is in charge of food stamps, since February 2017.

The Trump Effect

In other words, this happened only a month after Trump entered the White House.

“Individual and household food stamp participation has consistently declined since 2013 back when the Obama administration was in power and enrollment in the program reached its highest point in U.S. history,” Breitbart reports. “After 2013, SNAP enrollment plunged once state legislatures passed laws requiring food stamp recipients to work, attend school, volunteer, or participate in job training for at least 20 hours per week to receive benefits.”

“Food stamp participation plummeted even further once President Trump took office, as 6.2 million individuals and 2.7 million households dropped out of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since his first full month in office,” Breitbart continued. “There are currently 36,029,506 individuals and 18,230,968 households enrolled in the food stamp program, but USDA officials said those numbers are “preliminary” due to the 2018 government shutdown, which affected food stamp administration at the beginning of 2019.”

More Self-Sufficiency

Trump has said in the past that he wants more Americans to end dependency on food stamps and wants to foster an environment in which more people are self-sufficient.

The president told Breitbart News in an Oval Office interview that he does not want any immigrants coming into the U.S. to be dependent on welfare programs.

He also doesn’t believe newcomers should have access to welfare.

“I don’t want to have anyone coming in that’s on welfare,” Trump told Breitbart News earlier this year.

A New Day

This is key. In addition to making sure that more Americans are weened off of public assistance, which has long been a generational problem for many, it would make no sense to continue this cycle of dependence by allowing immigrants to become immersed in the same system.

Donald Trump can point to many achievements in his time in office, but reducing the ranks of food stamp recipients is chief among them.

And don’t expect the mainstream media to make a peep about it.

  • This has been a problem far too long and I agree with what President Trump has done. Immigrants milk the US for everything free they can get and letting them know this is not going to happen anymore will deter them. I have never understood why we give so much taxpayer money to illegals and immigrants than we do to US citizens that are truly in need. Requiring them to work 20 hours a week for this is not out of the question at all!

  • This is clear proof of this presidents racism!

    just kidding.
But how about now that we're saving America $750 million annually, we spend that on the wall!
