Trump Withdraws Endorsement Of America First Senate Candidate Mo Brooks

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump said that he is withdrawing his endorsement of Alabama GOP Congressman Mo Brooks, considered by many to be the pro-Trump, America First candidate, who is running to replace retiring Sen. Richard Shelby in the U.S. Senate.

Trump’s endorsement has been considered a key factor in Alabama’s Republican senate primary – and the un-endorsement appears to be over Brooks suggesting that Republicans “move on” from the 2020 election.

Trump: ‘I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate’

Trump said that Brooks suffering in recent polls and not sufficiently focusing on what the former president believes is fraud in the 2020 election.

“When I endorsed Mo Brooks, he took a 44-point lead and was unstoppable,” Trump said in a statement. “He then hired a new campaign staff who ‘brilliantly’ convinced him to ‘stop talking about the 2020 Election.”

“He listened to them,” Trump lamented.

“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’ despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities,” Trump said.

Trump continued, “Very sad but, since he decided to go in another direction, so have I, and I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate.”

The former president said he would endorse another candidate in the “near future.”

At major issue seems to be Brooks’ legal advice to Trump that the 2020 election could not be reversed, regardless of whether or not there was fraud involved.

In polls, Brooks originally held a significant lead over senate primary candidate Katie Boyd Britt, who is Shelby’s former chief of staff. Shelby has said he would support Britt.

As late as December 2021, Brooks led by more than 30 percent.

Yet polls in March showed that Brooks had dipped to third place and had less than 20 percent support.

Brooks Campaign: ‘I wish President Trump wouldn’t fall for McConnell’s ploys, but, once again, he has’

Brooks campaign responded to Trump withdrawing his endorsement by accusing Trump of having been manipulated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“It’s disappointing that, just like in 2017, President Trump lets Mitch McConnell manipulate him again,” Brooks’ campaign said in a statement.

“Every single negative TV ad against our campaign has come from McConnell and his allies,” Brooks campaign insisted. “I wish President Trump wouldn’t fall for McConnell’s ploys, but, once again, he has.”

“Katie Britt’s campaign is supported and funded by McConnell allies, and she’s still a high taxing, open borders, cheap foreign labor, Chamber of Commerce lobbyist,” it continued, describing Brooks as the “only proven America First candidate” in the Republican primary.
