President Trump is set to visit the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico after the island was roiled by Hurricane Maria. He will be visiting next Tuesday. That’s the soonest he can go, as first-responders are struggling to bring aid to the displaced people.
Axios exclusively confirms: “President Trump announced today that he plans to travel to Puerto Rico — which he said was “literally destroyed” and “hit as hard as you can hit” — next Tuesday to view firsthand the devastation from Hurricane Maria.”
Trump confirmed this before press this morning:

This will be the latest trip President Trump will take to visit a part of our country ravaged by a natural disaster. After hurricanes struck Houston, Texas, and the state of Florida, the president made sure to visit the affected areas and offer his support.
The president has received criticism in recent days for not addressing the crisis in Puerto Rico sooner, instead tweeting about the NFL and the ongoing National Anthem protests. As you can see in the video below, the damage dealt to Puerto Rico has been massive:
However, it’s not true that President Trump has been neglecting Puerto Rico. He’s tweeted about the territory in recent days:
Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble..

…It's old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars….

…owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities – and doing well. #FEMA

And Puerto Rico’s governor has gone out of his way to thank the Trump Administration, and has praised its coordinated response to the crisis:

President Trump is doing all he can to help Puerto Rico, and he’s about to do more. The critics are taking advantage of a crisis to attack our president when all he’s trying to do is help out people who are suffering. For shame.
Share this story with others to show them that President Trump isn’t neglecting Puerto Rico. Puretro Rico is in our prayers.
