South Korea is confirming that they believe President Donald Trump deserves credit for North Korea announcing that they’d close their nuclear test site in May, and invite international experts and journalists from South Korea and the United States into the country to guarantee transparency.

Kim Jong-un met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in last week, with Kim becoming the first North Korean leader to step into South Korea since fighting ended in the Korean War in 1953.

According to Business Insider, Moon Jae-in made the comments earlier today. “President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize. What we need is only peace,” Moon told a cabinet meeting, according to a media release.

After North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile tests and the nuclear tests in 2017, the US led pushes for sanctions in the UN and Trump personally pressured Chinese President Xi Jinping to crack down on Pyongyang.

As a result China — North Korea’s main trading partner — greatly cut trade with the country, which contributed to a serious economic decline.

In addition to the crippling sanctions on North Korea which a peace deal could remove, North Korea faced the constant threat of military action from Trump.

North Korea was bluffing America with their ballistic missile tests, and Trump called that bluff.

While all of these causes likely contributed to the renewed push for peace, Moon has firmly said for some time that he thinks Trump deserves “big credit.”

In January, Moon said Trump “deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks. It could be a resulting work of the US-led sanctions and pressure,” and said he deserves “big credit” again when it comes to their newly-pledged denuclearization.

The case that Trump at least deserves credit for bringing North Korea to the table is so clear cut that this is a real headline on CNN right now:

I guess that settles it. President Trump’s increasing pressure on North Korea appears be paying off, and we may actually be on the road to true peace between North and South Korea.

Do you think Trump will win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the Korean Peninsula, or will he be snubbed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
