Trump Just Got A Surprise Defender In Muslim Marine Controversy!

Trump Khan

Recently, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has found himself in some serious hot water for comments he made to Khizir Khan, a Muslim man whose son died in Iraq fighting for our country.

Khan is clearly no fan of Trump, voicing his opposition to the candidate in a speech at last week’s DNC.

Trump would have been wise to thank Mr. Khan for his son’s service and move on. Instead he chose a different path.

Khan charged that Trump had “sacrificed nothing” for his country. But the candidate argued that, saying he had sacrificed by employing “thousands and thousands of people.”

The situation has created a predominantly negative backlash for Trump. One U.S. Marine and Navy veteran however is coming to his defense.

In an open letter to Khan, veteran Chris Mark writes “I am troubled that you would allow a party that has little more than contempt for the US Service Member to parade you into the DNC to denounce Donald Trump.”

“Did you watch when protesters at the DNC booed and heckled Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Florent Groberg?” Mark asked. “Did you notice your party interrupting the moment of silence for slain police officers?”

He then focused on the ‘sacrifice’ comments in particular, asking what exactly certain member of the Democratic Party have sacrificed for their country.

Does it matter whether Mr. Trump has sacrificed “…nothing and no one?”…has Ms. Clinton “..sacrificed” for this nation?  How about Mr. Obama?   Your comment stating that Mr. Trump “…has sacrifice no one” is alarming.  Are you intimating that YOU sacrificed?  Sir, your son willingly sacrificed himself.   As a father I cannot imagine the pain you must feel but his sacrifice is his own.  He was not forced to serve.

Mark concludes by ripping the elder Khan for “mak(ing) the media circuit and bask(ing) in the glow of affection cast upon you by a party that has little regard for your son’s own sacrifice.”

It’ll be interesting to see how much media coverage Mark’s open letter gets. This past winter, media outlets were fawning over a letter he penned critical of Sarah Palin, when she used PTSD as a “political football.” Rightfully so.

But will the media also look to promote Mark’s words now that he has come to the defense of Donald Trump?
