You’ve gotta respect a man who, having failed, gets back up and tries again. That’s exactly what happened to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a golf game with President Trump.
The President is currently on a state trip to Asia, visiting various countries, including Japan, China, and the Philippines. While in Japan, Trump stayed true to himself, eschewing the foreign food and sticking to what he knows best: the great American burger.
The President also got to engage in his favorite recreational activity: golf.
Trump and Abe hit the links at the Kasumigaseki Country Club. As a golfer, Trump is renowned for his skill. Even his political opponents admit he’s got the goods.

OK, not really. But the Japanese leader did take a terrible tumble in the sand trap that was caught on camera. Boy, is this embarrassing:

Abe quickly recovered, but I bet his ego is still bruised.
I guess it all goes to show that even the most powerful men on earth still put their pants on one leg at a time in the morning, just like you and me. And they apparently take a spill now and then, just like us.
All in all, the fall looked like any normal incident of human folly. No harm, no foul. Although, since honor has a crucial role in Japanese society, I’m betting Abe feels embarrassed in front of his American counterpart. President Trump is a down-to-earth guy, but he’s also a competitive man. If he noticed the spill, he might think lesser of Abe. And given Trump’s history of bashing Japan for corning the market on emerging technology, it may embolden his belief that America should continue to surpass Japan in technological innovation.
Or maybe it was a funny slip-up among powerful, yet mortal, men. I guess we’ll never find out.
