Earlier this week, President Trump signed the ‘Right to Try’ bill, a piece of legislation designed to give terminally ill patients an opportunity to use experimental treatments.
The President called it a “fundamental freedom” that will offer hope and could save lives. Think Charlie Gard, the subject of a heartbreaking case in England in which his country refused to allow his parents to try a treatment that may have saved his life. Joining him at the bill signing were several individuals and their families having to cope with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, as well as other people with terminal illnesses.
One small child, however, stole the show.
8-year-old Jordan McLinn of Indianapolis, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, tried repeatedly to steal a hug from the President. Each time, he realized the President was in the midst of saying something further about the legislation or actually holding it up for the press to take pictures. And each time, Jordan would casually place his arms down so nobody would notice his intentions.
Then, finally, he got the hug that he had hoped for …

At one point, Jordan went in for the hug, realized Trump was still a little busy, and immediately dropped his elbow on the table and held up his chin. As if nothing was going on.
It drew laughter from those in attendance. His persistence paid off when the President gave him a hug, kissed him on the forehead, and told his mother, “He’s going to be fantastic.” (RELATED: Trump Surprised Young Kids On a White House Tour).

What an incredible moment!
In signing the Right to Try bill, President Trump conveyed that experimental treatments in their own country should be a fundamental right of any patient and their family.
“People who are terminally ill should not have to go from country to country to seek a cure — I want to give them a chance right here at home,” he said.
And for that, it would appear Jordan McLinn is forever grateful.
