President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have announced that they will order the White House to light blue to honor fallen police officers.
In a proclamation regarding Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, Trump said it’s time “we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities.”
“In humble appreciation of our hard-working law enforcement officers,” the President declared, “Melania and I will light the White House in blue on May 15.”

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania will light the White House blue Monday in honor of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
“America stands strong with our brave men and women in blue,” Trump said during a speech for Peace Officers Memorial Day Monday on Capitol Hill. “Every drop of blood spilled from our heroes in blue is a wound inflicted upon the whole country.”
The President has requested governors around the country fly flags at half staff in memory of fallen officers.

You may recall that President Obama was repeatedly asked to light the White House blue to honor fallen police officers, especially in the wake of racially motivated attacks in Dallas and Baton Rouge – yet refused to do so.
Jon Adler, President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (F.L.E.O.A.) Foundation, pleaded with Obama to respect the men and women in blue.
“While we appreciate the President’s proclamation to have our flag flown at half-mast in honor of our fallen Dallas police heroes, I respectfully request that he demonstrate his full respect for their ultimate sacrifice by illuminating the White House in blue,” Adler said. “Actions speak louder than scripted words, and the honorable act of displaying law enforcement’s ‘Thin Blue Line’ at the White House would demonstrate the President’s sincere commitment to our fallen heroes and their families.”
But he never did.
He did however, find time to light the White House in rainbow colors when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage.
Obama’s press secretary, Josh Earnest, following the Baton Rouge attack, said the President had no intention of honoring Adler’s request.
They had done enough, Earnest implied.
At a listening session with representatives from the Fraternal Order of Police in March, President Trump promised law enforcement officers that he would “always have your back.”
“As I traveled the country during my campaign, I had the great privilege to spend time with our amazing police officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe,” Trump said.
“And I made a crucial pledge …” he added. “I will always have your back — 100 percent.”
Now, he’s demonstrating that in a manner President Obama never did.
