Trump Calls Terminally Ill Man Whose Dying Wish Was to Speak to the President

A Connecticut man’s dying wish to speak to President Donald Trump has happened, thanks in part to his Democratic sister.

West Haven’s Jay Barrett has cystic fibrosis. The 44-year-old left the hospital recently to receive hospice care at his sister’s home.

Barrett is a big Trump supporter and asked her if there was any way he could have contact with the president.

His sister, Bridgette Hoskie, is a West Haven City Councilwoman who describes herself as “100 percent Democrat.” Hoskie took to social media and asked friends and others to send emails to the White House, seeing if they might get the president’s attention.

Hoskie wrote on her Facebook, “please log onto whitehouse.gov and send a request to the president asking him to contact my brother. He loves Trump and it’s on his bucket list. He’s currently in Yale’s ICU so this happening would be amazing. Use your info and my brothers in the message.”

On Tuesday night it happened – President Trump called Jay Barrett.

“You’re my kind of man, Jay. … I’m very proud of you”

“Mr. President, through thick and thin, you know there’s been a lot of thicks, and there’s been a lot of thins, I support you,” Barrett said to Trump.

Trump told Barrett to hang in there and that he’s a “champ.” The president also told him to expect a personal letter.

“You’re my kind of man, Jay. … I’m very proud of you,” Trump said. “I’ll talk to you again, Jay, OK? You keep that fight going. We both fight.”

Local Connection

Barrett has also received calls from Eric Trump, the president’s son, and Housing and Urban Development regional chief Lynne Patton.

Eric Trump “told me they’re pulling for me and praying,” Barrett said.

There is a local connection for Patton. Yahoo News reports:

Patton, who is from New Haven, said she’s coming to Connecticut on Saturday to give Barrett a signed gift from the president. She also reached out to the Trump family after a New Haven Register story about Barrett’s wish was posted online.

From Obama to Trump… and Plans to Vote Again in 2020!

“Barrett, who for most of his life considered himself an independent, voted for President Barack Obama in 2008, but didn’t like many of his polices, including the Affordable Care Act,” Yahoo News notes. “Barrett said he came to realize he was a Republican and fell in love with Trump’s style at the launch of his campaign, and later, because of his policies.”

Doctors have given Jay Barrett only about six months to live, but he says he plans to stick around until 2020 to vote for Donald Trump again.

A “champ,” indeed.
