Trey Gowdy Retiring from Congress

Today is a sad day for conservatives. Trey Gowdy, the irascible congressman from South Carolina, is retiring. The lawmaker just announced the news via Twitter:

Here is some of what Gowdy said in his statement:

“I will not be filing for re-election to Congress nor seeking any other political or elected office; instead I will be returning to the justice system.”

Trey Gowdy has been a strong voice for law and order in Congress, and has been a fierce critic of former President Obama and the Democrats. This is incredibly sad news.

Gowdy is the latest Republican to announce their retirement, following on the heels of Rodney Frelinghuysen, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, who announced his retirement earlier this week.

Gowdy says he won’t be seeking political office after his retirement, effectively marking the end of his career as an elected official.
