Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office announced on Tuesday that the governor tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.
Abbott himself later checked in with supporters to note that he was is in good health and experiencing no symptoms.
Abbott was vaccinated in December.
Liberal media outlets were quick to seize on Abbott refusing to reinstate mask mandates or lockdowns.
One headline, published by The Hill, reads, “11th governor to contract Covid-19 is controversial leader against mask mandates”.
Over at Yahoo News, we learn “Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who opposes vaccine and mask mandates, tests positive for COVID-19”.
The Washington Post helpfully informs, “Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has sought to ban mask mandates in schools, tests positive for the coronavirus”.
CNBC wants readers to know, “Texas Gov. Abbott, who banned mask and vaccine mandates, tests positive for Covid”.
Not one left-leaning outlet notified readers in their headlines that Abbott is fully vaccinated.
“Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms,” spokesman Mark Miner said. “Everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified.”
The Associated Press reported, “The positive test comes a day after Abbott, who has seldom been seen wearing a mask in public recently, did not wear one while speaking indoors near Dallas to a crowded room of GOP supporters, most of whom were older and unmasked.”
“Video posted by his campaign shows the 63-year-old governor — who is up for reelection in 2022 and has drawn two GOP challengers who have attacked the virus restrictions he put in place last year — mingling with attendees as they gathered around him taking pictures,” AP noted.
“Another standing room only event in Collin County tonight,” Abbott tweeted.
Abbott shared a video to report that he is feeling fine and has no symptoms:
He said that the fact that he had been fully vaccinated “may be one reason I’m really not feeling any symptoms right now. I have no fever, no aches and pains, no other types of symptoms.”
“By Tuesday, at least four Texas school districts had already temporarily closed because of virus outbreaks just days into students returning to class,” AP reported.
“And in a sign of tensions as schools defy Abbott’s orders, the superintendent of the Eanes school district near Austin said one parent ‘physically assaulted’ one teacher by ripping a mask off her face,” the report said.
According to Abbott’s office, the governor tested negative Monday and that no one else on staff has tested positive.
Abbott had been getting tested daily and Miner said “everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified.”
