Attorney Files Lawsuit Regarding DNC Staffer Seth Rich’s Murder

While speculation surrounding the death of DNC staffer Seth Rich last year have been mainly treated as conspiracies by the media (which isn’t inappropriate, given that all information is speculative), Sean Hannity became the only mainstream journalist to give the case any attention.

He attracted no shortage of criticism for his coverage, which aimed to build the case that Rich was the man leaking information from the DNC to Wikileaks. A now-retracted piece at Fox “proved” as much initially, but turned out to have contained false and un-vetted information.

Hannity later notified his audience that he’d be no longer reporting on Rich’s death on the air out of respect for his family, which requested that their son’s death not be covered on his show.

Seth Rich lawsuit

The media may not be covering it – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t unanswered questions that people want the answer to.

Washington, D.C. lobbyist and attorney Jack Burkman is filing a lawsuit Wednesday to force the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to release information regarding the murder of Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer Seth Rich.

“The release of this crucial material will help bring peace to the victim’s family, and it will help to either confirm or refute the various theories that swirl about this important murder case,” the lawsuit says.

Police have not yet solved the case, and have closely guarded information regarding his murder from the press.

Burkman, who is offering a $105,000 reward in the case, wants to force the police department to release video footage of the murder, along with the medical examiner’s report and ballistic reports related to the weapon used to shoot Rich.

Burkman is also leading an independent investigation into the murder with volunteers from George Washington University’s Student Association for Forensic Psychology. The independent investigation is being touted as The Profiling Project, featuring professors and graduate students from the D.C.-based university.

Regardless of one’s position on the Rich murder, it’s impossible to deny how suspicious it is how protective the D.C. police are of any information related to this case. While they insist that Rich was the victim of a botched robbery, the alleged “robber” didn’t take anything of Rich’s person.

While the D.C. police have a policy of regularly releasing surveillance footage to the public, they haven’t done so in the case of Rich. Three officers who responded to the scene of Rich’s death also were wearing body cameras, but that footage is not public either. As the Daily Caller noted, “a quick look at the police department’s YouTube channel reveals that they regularly release video footage in cases involving a person of interest. MPD has released 12 videos in the last week alone, to include unsolved murder investigations.”
