Senator Cotton: No Stimulus Funds For States Earmarking Stimulus Payments To Illegal Aliens

That would cover several big liberal states.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) appeared on the “Hannity” show Tuesday night and advanced a novel proposal: He advocates withholding federal funds for any states that allocate stimulus payments to illegal aliens.

“We shouldn’t be spending hard-earned taxpayer dollars on illegal immigrants at a time when 35 million Americans are out of work,” Cotton said. “If we are going to be giving relief checks to those people who are out of work, we need to focus on American citizens, not illegal immigrants.”

The very fact that those who came here by breaking the law are now rewarded for it, in this way and in so many others in places like New York and California, is a slap in the face to hard-working Americans all over the country who pay taxes to support the local, state, and federal systems.

Hannity responded to Cotton’s point: “New York, Illinois, New Jersey, California have some of the highest state income taxes in the entire country. Now, there is more waste, fraud, abuse, debt, deficits. They are now trying to get people like yourself and people in red states that elect responsible politicians that don’t tax and spend to death to bail them out. That means bailout their stupidity.”

Cotton also commented on the manufacture of vital drugs outside the United States and especially in China: “Unfortunately, Sean, it is a tragic irony that the country that unleashed this pandemic on the world also controls many of the most basic pharmaceutical ingredients for the United States. That does have to stop. I’ve got legislation that would give incentives to build more manufacturing capacity right here in the United States and ultimately ban the import of pharmaceuticals from China, many of which are adulterated to begin with.”

Cotton has hit on a solid consensus amongst the American people—the idea that U.S. benefits should be reserved only for legal American citizens. As opposed to what some progs believe, Americans are a generous people and throughout our history we have welcomed others to our shores with open arms. In fact, the vast majority of us are descended from just those people. But the difference between our ancestors and today is that those who came here during the Ellis Island period and before, and many times after, waited their turn and obeyed the law. Their first act upon stepping on American soil was not to break the law of the nation they now called their home.

Those brave men and woman also played by the rules and worked hard so their descendants, people like you and me, could live better than they did. Since there was no social safety net during that period they had a stark choice: work or starve. They worked and reaped the rewards of their hard struggle. They didn’t expect to be rewarded for either breaking the law or indigence.

Cotton also has a strong position on foreign drug manufacture. As we are currently seeing, drug production is a strategic asset and having it in the power of a foreign power, especially a rival like China, makes America a hostage to their whims and objectives.
