President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani is coming out swinging against Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel probe, which has raged on for over a year while uncovering zero evidence of collusion with the Trump campaign.
“Mueller is sitting on top of a totally illegitimate investigation,” he told Sean Hannity last night. Giuliani told Hannity that the “story” is that this probe is going to “blow up” on the Mueller team. “The reality is, the real story is not that this case isn’t going to fizzle,” he said to Hannity. “It’s going to blow up on them. The real question is, what we talked about before, there’s a lot more to what they did that nobody knows about yet.”
“A lot more to the obstruction of justice, to the collision, to the fake dossier,” Giuliani added.
“I know some of it,” Hannity replied.
Giuliani went on to lay out some of the suspicious facts about the probe – such as the fact that this all began with an anti-Trump dossier paid for by the Clinton campaign and DNC, which convinced the FBI to open a secretive counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.
The FBI counterintelligence investigation became the Mueller Special Counsel after Trump fired former FBI head, James Comey. “I think it’s going to lead to some very strict — very big reforms, just like Watergate,” Giuliani said about the reality of the probe. “It’s a different kind of Watergate. It’s on the side of the investigator.”
Trump himself has floated the idea of sitting down with Mueller for an interview, on the condition that it ends this probe.
But should he? I’d say no, based on the fact that witch hunts always have a 100% success rate in finding that witch. Back in the days of literal witch hunts, there was a “dunking” test that potential witches were subjected to. If they floated it was proof they were a witch (and thus needed to be further drowned to death) – and if they drowned, they were innocent….. and dead. Either way, the alleged witch was going to die.
This kind of circular, Kafkaesque reasoning can already be seen in the Mueller probe. After all, the probe’s stated mission was to find collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and yet not a single person indicted by the Special Counsel has done so on charges of colluding with the Russians. George Papadopoulos and Michael Flynn were indicted on charges of lying to the FBI, while Paul Manafort and Rick Gates face charges of tax evasion and money laundering.
In other words, there was zero evidence they colluded with the Russians but got in trouble anyway. And that’s the definition of a witch hunt.
Is there any doubt that Mueller would try to turn literally everything Trump says against him in an interview? Of course not. Giuliani said it best, however, “Come on, you think we’re fools?”
