Another GOP lawmaker is choosing to retire rather than run for re-election in 2018.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced that he will retire after his current term.

This is stunning news, and comes on the heels of a rash of retirement announcements by his fellow GOP lawmakers.
Earlier this week, two GOP reps, Frank A. LoBiondo of New Jersey and Ted Poe of Texas, announced they wouldn’t seek re-election. With Goodlatte’s announcement, a grand total of 30 GOP lawmakers won’t be running for office in 2018.

The representative from the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia made the announcement over Twitter:
It's my honor to represent #VA06. I cannot begin to express how blessed I am to have had the opportunity to serve. Now is the right time to step aside – I will not seek re-election. My statement: https://t.co/tByoe5vFmO

This is bad news for Republicans. Goodlatte holds one of the most powerful positions in the House of Representatives. As Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Goodlatte plays a key role in the oversight of the federal court system. And, most importantly, it’s the congressional committee that starts impeachment proceedings for federal officials.
I can just hear Democrats licking their chops now at the prospect of the chairmanship being up for grabs.

These people are seriously unhinged. But they aren’t wrong. After the Democrats’ big wins on Tuesday, it’s looking like keeping a majority is going to be a struggle for Republicans come 2018. Running a bunch of brand new candidates is not something the Republican National Committee was counting on.
There is speculation that lawmakers like Goodlatte – traditional Republicans who rejected Donald Trump as a presidential candidate – don’t want to be in the Trump-run GOP, and that’s why they’re retiring. If that’s really their case, though, I say good riddance. President Trump is the leader of the party. If you don’t like it, you can make like Goodlatte and leave.
What do you think? Does Goodlatte’s retirement signal that the GOP is in trouble for 2018? Tell us your thoughts below and share this story over Facebook now!

So there were 30 do nothing and obstruct the current admin? Then they just saw the handwriting on the wall and are leaving. They obviously care nothing for us or our country. They must have just wanted the power and prestige without commitment. Now maybe we can get some real Conservatives in there who are cut from the same cloth as the Founders of our country! It’s good news, but there is much work to be done!
So how is this bad news for the GOP? Swamp is being drained of RINOs who have accomplished precious little over multiple decades. They can be replaced by stronger Republicans. This gets us closer to term limits. All good by me.
…I guess it all depends on who runs in place of the rinos – hopefully there are enough real Americans to fill the slots…and hopefully President Trump will undo the sabotage installed by ohbummer and soros so that we can ensure legitimate elections…unless the democrat-owned fascists are eliminated we can expect voter-intimidation that’ll make 2008 look like a fairy tale…
Don’t want to be in Trump’s GOP? Moron, they will face a conservative challenger in their primary. The y cannot beat a conservative challenger and that is why they are leaving.
My GOP can fugg up a one car funeral. They are in bed with the Dems. trying to ruin Trump.
I have been voting for Republicans since I could vote. I’ve never voted for a Democrat except maybe for Kennedy. I was in college and still kind of stupid. Having said that, the Republicans have really po’d me over the last couple of years. The RINO’s have disgusted me more than a Democrats. The RINO’s say one thing to get elected and then vote with the Democrats. Think John McCain. The RINO’s and McCain lied to us. That type of behavior is expected from the Democrats but not Republicans. So if these Republicans are leaving because they can’t or won’t get along with Trump then let them go. We voted Trump in as our President and I have no regrets in doing so. Maybe the next group who run as Republicans and support Trump and his agenda we can really make America Great again. Even if we lose to the Democrats for awhile we should be able to stop them at every turn, if everyone units. Here we control Congress and the office of the President and the Republicans can’t pass much of anything due to their bickering. Yes, maybe it is time for many to go.
to ted”””””’great comment”””””””’i agree
There is a season for everything and everyone. The establishment politicians of yesteryear did well for their time in office. America is in a very different era today: We are not only fighting an un-peaceful world on our outside, we are also fighting a liberal democrat OPPOSITION PARTY on the inside of our country. Americans recognized the STATUS QUO in government and Washington, D.C. had to change–how things have always been done, and especially NOT done. To do this and bring accomplishment, success and prosperity back to our country, we needed a real and strong leader–President Trump. He’s getting rid of waste, incompetence, and “counterfeit” people. He is also gaining the COMMITMENT of government and CONGRESS to SERVE America and Americans FIRST…and not anyone’s own personal political agenda. And President Trump is accomplishing in spite of politicians who don’t recognize or understand his leadership or don’t like him personally for whatever reason. And because our country, government and president have been DEVOID of pride and patriotism for many years, President Trump is restoring what we as a nation and as a people believe in, what we stand united behind, and the customs, ideals and traditions we STAND for. Nativism vs nationalism? Old-school politicians can call it what they want. But, American confidence and pride are back. And if they don’t understand what’s going on today or cannot or will not make the COMMITMENT to America and Americans FIRST–then they should retire and enjoy a profession where they can profess and commit their allegiance.
“Running a bunch of brand new candidates is not something the Republican National Committee was counting on.”
The RNC should count on replacing several Do Nothing Rinos and those that do not support the President.
Everybody has been calling for term limits. Looks like the politicos
are granting their wishes. Just don’t vote for a New World Order.
Countries Without Borders and Globalism Fruitcake.
If the heat’s too hot, time to get out of the kitchen….laid around at our expense for too long and their games won’t work any longer…goodbye and good riddance!
Primary them all…both sides…and do it every cycle….No more homesteaders…
Doesn’t matter who is in the congress. The lobbyists and uber wealthy activists rule the congress. The regular folks are just window dressing in this so-called Republic. This is no more a Republic than the people’s republic of China or North Korea. There are 535 Oligarchs who are, for the most part, very wealthy. Wealth derived from selling out to the puppet masters. Nothing short of a revolution will change much of anything. Our poor president is standing alone against these opportunists and it’s going to be a difficult 3 more years if he survives it. Unfortunately, most of the regular folks don’t know how to take to the streets en-mass to affect real change. That will be our downfall, I’m afraid. Playing nice guy ain’t gonna get it these days.
Reply Davison: We could take some lessons from Street Thugs for Hilliary. They seem to have it down pat.
I have the greatest respect for these Republicans. Who wants to work for a self-centered moron who consistently makes HUUGGE mistakes and bad decisions? The ship is sinking and they do not want to go down with it.
to paul what makes you so perfect”””’ship goes down you go with it”’ have a good water lung job
You have respect for these Republicans? Have you voted for any one of them? I doubt is.
The Swamp is being drained – there are both republicans and democrats that have been entrenched in D.C. for decades and become very wealthy in so called “government service” – they should all be investigated.
ALL RINOs need to retire.
Let them retire. Hopefully the people will put in there place someone NEW. Doesn’t matter if they are Republican or Democrats. Just someone not just collecting a paycheck like they’ve been doing for years.
The swamp is draining by itself. Flush the dem’s too.
To me it looks like all the rinos and antitrumpers are about to leave the building before their complicity in the anti american deal’s with the globle elite come to light
Actually, this is good news because, slowly but surely the swamp is being drained of establishment career politicians who have given President Trump nothing but grief while being unable to pass legislation they had promised.
Good news as RINOs and establishment realize they’re no longer wanted, and they no longer have power. And because they joined forces with the Democrats to block and resist the president’s agenda, they knew they wouldn’t even win their primaries, let alone reelection. Now we can fill those spots with true conservatives who believe in our Constitution and the rule of law.
I think we all need to face the fact that neither side will work for the voters they are supposed to serve.
Republicans will blame Trump for any of their losses, just as the NFL blames game saturation for revenue losses. They just don’t get it.
I personally wont vote anymore because the issues are inverted, and our govt. quit working years ago. One can only hope for a Constitutional Convention to reign in government.
To Pauly: Don’t stop voting. Vote for someone who you believe will work for “We, the People”, instead of using the position to enrich themselves. Help to drain the swamp!
The RINO’s are jumping ship because they were going to face tough primaries! BIG WINS??? WHAT BIG WINS??? A WEAK REPUBLICAN GAVE THE FAVORED SON DEMOCRAT A RUN FOR HIS MONEY, AND THE JERSEY RACE WAS NO SURPRISE!!!
.
I CAN UNDERSTAND HOW ANY GOOD NEWS WILL SEND THE DEMOCRATS TO DANCING IN THE AISLES, BUT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO WIN BOTH OF THOSE RACES, SO BIG WHOOPS! BUT TAKING THE HOUSE BACK? FAT CHANCE!
OH NO THE DEMOCRATS ARE QUITTING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. THEY ARE NOT RUNNING FOR REINFECTION. IF YOU ARE NOT A TRUMPETEER YOU CAN’T WIN ANYWAY. TAKE THE STOLEN PENSION AND RUN. ONLY TWO PARTYS LEFT THE DEMOCRAT COMMUNIST PARTY AND THE TRUMPETEERS. SPIRIT OF AMERICA PARTY RADIO SHOW ON TUNE IN RADIO.
SIDEBAR TO THE NAACP COMMUNIST KNEE KAPPERS. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE SSB SING THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC. HALLELUIA.
Does Goodlatte’s retirement signal that the GOP is in trouble for 2018? Tell us your thoughts below and share this story over Facebook now! … after stabbing their voters in the back over Trump the RINOs should not be optimistic about 2018 or even 2020 and 2022. They are going to lose quite a bit, have NO plurality in either House, have few state offices and probably right on down to cities and counties. They kicked their own voters in the teeth (and they did not win over any lefties by doing it). They’re in big trouble.
The GOP is NOT in trouble as all these RINOs and establishment politicians jump ship like the rats that they are. Those remaining are the newer pols brought in by the Tea Party and other conservative PACs. Speaking of conservative PACs, they’re already out there finding replacements for the traitorous RINOs/establishment. They’ve already found people who are going to primary out the current Republican…if he/she hasn’t jumped ship already. What this means is that the GOP is strengthening and becoming more powerful and more in tune with the president’s agenda than those who lied, sailing in on Trump’s coattails.
