Republican Miami Mayor Wants Military Action Against Cuba – Potentially Including Airstrikes

Martha MacCallum Asks Miami Mayor Who Wants US Action In Cuba: ‘Are You Suggesting Air Strikes?'

On Tuesday, Miami’s Republican Mayor Francis Suarez said that all possible solutions should be considered for the United States to aid for Cuban freedom fighters.

Including airstrikes? Yep.

MacCallum To Suarez: ‘Tell Me What Form Of Intervention You Want To See’

Suarez told Fox News host Martha MacCallum that President Joe Biden should be ready for the US to intervene in Cuba, even militarily.

MacCallum asked, “Tell me what form of intervention you want to see.”

Suarez replied, “There’s a variety of ways the U.S. can intervene.”

“I think it’s very difficult for any elected official, Republican or Democrat, not to take the side of the Cuban people when they see images of people risking their lives, protesting in the streets,” Suarez said.

He continued, “They’re yelling out we want liberty and freedom… That is what they’re yearning for and risking their lives for.”

MacCallum noted that former national security adviser to former President Barack Obama, Ben Rhodes, said “a cruel U.S. embargo” was partly to blame for the oppression of Cubans.

Suarez disagreed, saying Cuba’s communist government that was to blame.

“I don’t understand why that is so difficult for people to understand,” Suarez said. “It has failed for six decades.”

That is when Suarez got to the potential use of US military power.

Miami’s GOP mayor said, “What should be being contemplated right now is a coalition of potential military action in Cuba similar to what has happened in both administrations, in both Republican and Democrat administrations.”

“With Bush in Panama, they deposed Noriega. And that country had peaceful democracy for decades. And you had interventions by a Democratic president taking out Osama bin Laden in Pakistan,” Suarez contended.

He continued, “It’s a sovereign country where they took out a terrorist and saved probably thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of lives. And President Clinton in Kosovo intervening in a humanitarian issue with airstrikes. So there have been many, many opportunities in the history of…”

MacCallum: ‘Are You Suggesting Airstrikes In Cuba?’

That is when MacCallum asked point blank,  “Are you suggesting airstrikes in Cuba?”

Suarez’s response? Basically: yeah, if needed.

“What I’m suggesting is that that option is one that has to be explored and cannot be just simply discarded as an option that is not on the table,” Suarez insisted.

“And there’s a variety of ways the military can do it,” finished.

He added, “But that’s something that needs to be discussed and needs to looked as a potential option in addition to a variety of other options that can be discussed.”

It should be noted that a major aspect of Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy agenda was to not resort to US military action in foreign conflicts, as his modern predecessors had done repeatedly.
