Republican Aide Says Trump Considering Visiting US Border, But Also Think Biden Needs To ‘Fail On His Own’

According to Jason Miller, a senior aide to Donald Trump, the former president has considered visiting the U.S.-Mexico border as the migrant crisis continues to unfold, but also isn’t particularly interested in helping President Joe Biden.

Miller made his comments on “The Michael Berry Show” podcast.

Miller Says Trump Likely Wants To See Biden ‘Go And Fail On His Own Before He Goes And Steps In On That’

Berry asked Miller if Trump might be visiting the border soon.

Miller replied, “We discussed that recently, I could see him doing that soon.”

But the aide hinted that Trump was not particularly eager to help Biden, suggesting the former president might be wanting the current one to “go and fail on his own before he goes and steps in on that.”

President Biden has appointed Vice President Kamala Harris as the head of the effort to resolve the increasing border crisis, as a surge of migrants continue to come northward from Mexico, Central and South America.

Border Crisis ‘Is Something That President Trump Is Really Concerned About’

Miller noted that Trump probably did have some concerns over how Biden might try to portray him visiting the border.

“I think there’s a very fine line between calling someone out on policies and then appearing to do something that’s showboating or give Joe Biden an opportunity to point and say, ‘See this isn’t serious, look at President Trump down at the border making a scene out of this,’” Miller said.

“And so not immediately but I could see a trip at some point in the future here,” Miller continued.

He added, “But it is something that President Trump is really concerned about.”

Trump Defends His Policies

President Trump defended his border policies in an interview with Fox News last week.

“By the time we finished what we were doing [at the border], very few people were coming up because they knew they weren’t going to get through. We stopped ‘catch and release’ — which was a disaster,” Trump told Fox News.

“The very biggest thing was, we had the ‘Remain In Mexico’ policy, and that means that we wouldn’t allow people to wait in our country until they were totally checked out, which most of them didn’t get checked out, and they would go back to their own country,” Trump added.
