Rand Paul Shocks Conservative Crowd When He Explains Why Republicans Won’t Vote to Defund Planned Parenthood

For eons, Republicans have promised to defund Planned Parenthood. But even when the GOP held both chambers of Congress and the White House, it hasn’t happened.

Why? According to Republican Senator Rand Paul, leadership fears that “we might win.”

Speaking at the recent Faith and Freedom Coalition conference, the staunchly pro-life U.S. Senator said Republicans are not playing tricks with pro-life voters, reports LifeSiteNews.

“We still lose in the legislation,” Rand Paul said. “We lose because the people who come to you and give you lip service and say, ‘Oh I’m pro-life, I’m pro-life,’ and then they don’t seem to vote that way.”

The senator explained how he tried pass a spending bill defunding Planned Parenthood only to have Republican leadership shut it down. Again, why? Pure politics.

Paul Tried To Defund Planned Parenthood

Paul said:

Last year, I tried to attach to a spending bill a prohibition to have any money spent by Planned Parenthood.

You know what happened? [GOP leadership] sat me down and one of the senior Republican senators said, ‘We cannot have the vote today.’

I said, ‘Why?’

He said, ‘We might win.’

According to Paul, when he asked this Republican leader why the party wouldn’t fight for the unborn, the person just smiled.

“What does this mean? Does this mean that passing your spending bill, getting the Democrats to vote for your spending bill, is more important than life?” Rand Paul said he asked. “Then he just smiled.”

The mostly Christian crowd at the conference were shocked to hear this from Paul. The senator said forthright that Washington, DC is filled with “Republicans that are more concerned with spending money than protecting the unborn.”

Sickening.

President Donald Trump, has promised to make the pro-life cause a central cause to his 2020 campaign.

We know the president is serious about this promise and Rand Paul has now thrown down the gauntlet on this issue.
