Rand Paul Asks ‘Is Fauci Advising Justice Sotomayor?’ After Her False COVID Claims

On Friday, Sen. Rand Paul asked if top White House doctor Anthony Fauci was “advising” Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor after she made false claims during Supreme Court arguments as the high court weighed the legality of President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandates.

Sotomayor said on Friday, “We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition, many on ventilators.”

Justice Sotomayor’s False Claim

Paul responded to news of Sotomayor’s remarks by tweeting, “Sotomayor: ‘over 100,000 children…in serious condition, many on ventilators’ Is Fauci advising Justice Sotomayor? Will YouTube censor her?”

According to the Washington Post, Sotomayor’s “100,000” number is demonstrably false.

“More than 4,000 children were hospitalized with covid-19 across the nation Wednesday, Washington Post figures show, marking a new high that towers above previous peaks set during the summer when the delta variant was driving up infections,” the Post reported.

4,000 being the highest high – and a tiny fraction of the 100,000 claimed by Sotomayor.

The Data Shows That Sotomayor’s Numbers Are Way Off

WaPo continued, “The tally, which includes confirmed as well as suspected pediatric covid-19 patients, reflects a steep rise in infections in that group. Less than two weeks ago, on Christmas, fewer than 2,000 children were in hospitals with covid.”

“The seven-day average of pediatric hospitalizations was slightly lower at 3,713,” the Post observed. “Hospitalizations of adults are also rising rapidly.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics showed similar data, revealing that “0.1%-1.6% of all their child COVID-19 cases resulted in hospitalization” per the 24 states that have turned in such data, which their report referred to as “cumulative hospitalizations.”

Senator Paul, a medical doctor, has been butting heads with Dr. Fauci for the duration of the pandemic.

Recently, Paul argued that Americans should “live your life and ignore this man,” referring to Fauci.

Over Christmas, Paul cracked a joke at Fauci’s expense, noting that his family wouldn’t have a vaccine requirement to celebrate the holy holiday, but would have a requirement that attendees have “read and understand the Constitution.”
