Democrats Travel to Puerto Rico During Government Shutdown

As the government shutdown drags on, many high-profile Democrats traveled to the sunny beaches of Puerto Rico over the weekend.

As Washington gets snowed in, Democrats take in the sun

Over the weekend, a white blanket of snow fell on Washington, D.C., covering the city by almost a foot of the white stuff. However, many Democrats wouldn’t know about it. Despite the longest government shutdown in U.S. history still unfolding, many left-leaning lawmakers left the cold and frost of Washington for the balmy beaches of Puerto Rico.

That’s right: As the American people wait for President Trump and Democrats to strike a deal on border security and open the government, one side is totally AWOL. (RELATED: Trump Once Again Places Blame For Shutdown At The Feet Of ‘Nancy And Cryin’ Chuck’.)

The Washington Examiner reports: “Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.”

Well, isn’t that nice? A beach vacation in the dead of winter while nearly a million federal employees sit waiting, uncertain when their next paycheck will be. And here I thought Democrats were pained at the thought of government workers missing a paycheck.

Democrats have fun in the sun

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was spotted shirtless on the beach:

We hope the good senator was wearing sunscreen!

President Trump even drew attention to the sojourn.

The President has continued to hound Democrats, telling them he’s waiting in the White House and is ready to make a deal for border security and to reopen the government.

It would seem that Democrats care more about catching rays than actually dealing with the crisis at the border or furloughed government employees.
