I’m not sure this is the right call, Mr. President.
President Trump just broke his silence on the accuser who alleges that Brett Kavanaugh, his nominee to the Supreme Court, sexually assaulted her in high school. The allegations surfaced last week from none other than Senator Dianne Fienstein, who was informed of them back in July. Why Sen. Feinstein sat on the allegations until now hasn’t been answered yet. And many suspect she’s playing politics with the accusation.
President Trump finally weighed in on the whole affair. The report comes via Axios:
President Trump said Monday that he is open to the Senate Judiciary Committee delaying Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process following allegations of sexual assault.“I want the American people to be happy because they’re getting somebody that is great. I want him to go in at the absolute highest level. And I think to do that you have to go through this. If it takes a little delay it’ll take a little delay … I’m sure it will work out very well.”— President Trump

I know Trump wants an untarnished nominee to be placed on the Supreme Court, but he should know by now that Democrats won’t let that happen. They’ll smear whomever Trump nominates. It doesn’t matter who it is.
Furthermore, Democrats have already revealed their hand: this is a delaying tactic driven by politics only. Sen. Feinstein is refusing to work with Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley to find out more information from the accuser. Likewise, Sen. Dick Durban, one of the higher ranking Democrats, also expressed reluctance on hearing from the accuser this week. That’s another sign that Democrats are only in this to delay the confirmation. They don’t care about the allegations. They’re using the accuser as a tool to harm Trump. Trump is making a mistake by giving Democrats exactly what they want.
