President Trump Criticized for Not Attending Barbara Bush’s Funeral

The funeral for former First Lady Barbara Bush took place this weekend. It was a somber affair that brought presidents from both parties together for mourning.

Isn’t it nice when politics can be put aside for a moment so that we can celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman who gave so much to our country?

President Trump was noticeably absent from the funeral. There was a rumor floating around online that he was “ordered” by the Bush family to stay away from the affair – a wildly implausible theory that found some takers among gullible liberals.

Trump, however, did tweet out some nice remarks about First Lady Bush:

That didn’t stop some liberals from criticizing the President for his absence.

This is disgraceful. Trump didn’t attend the funeral because the security prep would have been hugely disruptive. And plus, it’s not a requirement of sitting presidents to attend the funeral service of a first lady. In fact, it’s quite rare for a president to do so.

As USA Today reports:

Trump’s absence isn’t unusual for a sitting president. The last president to attend a first lady’s funeral was John F. Kennedy, who went to Eleanor Roosevelt’s service in 1962.

Former president Barack Obama did not attend Nancy Reagan’s funeral in 2016 or Betty Ford’s in 2011, and Bill Clinton did not attend the funeral of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Clinton did speak at a graveside service for her at Arlington National Cemetery in 1994.

Once again, liberals use a special moment meant to honor someone important to attack President Trump. They truly know no shame.
