The mass shooting in Florida last week has once again ignited calls for more gun control.
Over the weekend, President Trump announced he was in favor of measures to bolster our current background check system, ensuring that only competent citizens can legally purchase guns.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders described the President’s intentions as follows:

President Trump is offering support to Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, who has introduced a bill to improve federal and state background check systems.
From Politico:
The gun legislation Trump signaled his support for, spearheaded by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), aims to enhance state and federal record-sharing with the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The measure enjoys broad support on both sides of the aisle, but Murphy noted Monday that even though Trump’s thumbs-up is significant, “no one should pretend this bill alone is an adequate response to this epidemic.”
What Trump is proposing isn’t that radical: he’s merely trying to strengthen laws that are already on the books. It’s clear at this point that dangerous individuals are getting guns, which shouldn’t happen. The answer isn’t to deprive law-abiding people of their rights, but to empower the FBI and other agencies to better vet disturbed people attempting to buy guns.
We already know that the FBI has an embarrassing record of actually being able to stop these lunatics before they decide to go on a killing spree.
Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign – there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!

Now, President Trump just announced that he has directed the Department of Justice to look into banning what’s known as ‘bump stocks,’ devices that increase the firing rate of guns.
