If you found yourselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, would you really mind going a few extra dollars in debt when you’re already that far in the hole? I can only imagine that was Obama’s thought process as he racked up our nation’s national debt to nearly $20 trillion – and continued to blow taxpayer money on vacations anyway. Trump, by contrast, won’t be taking a presidential salary or any vacations as President.
So how much did he manage to spent over the past eight years? According to a new study:
Taxpayers spent more than $96 million on President Obama and his family’s travel during his eight years in office, a total that could well exceed $100 million before the end of Obama’s presidency.
The president’s high-price trips included a $1 million jaunt to the Everglades for a global warming speech, a $222,000 ski trip in Aspen taken by his wife and daughters and a $450,000 flight to a family vacation in Martha’s Vineyard this summer, conservative watchdog Judicial Watch announced Thursday.
So over 10 million a year on vacations – not bad for a gig with a salary that’s under 4% of that.
“The Obamas notorious abuse of presidential travel perks wasted military resources and stressed the Secret Service,” Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said in a statement. “Judicial Watch estimates that the final costs of Obama’s unnecessary vacation and political travel will well exceed $100 million.”
During his last month in office, Obama has commuted a record number of prisoners, cut money from Medicare to pay for refugees, and is refusing to deport a record number of illegal immigrants (just as he’s done throughout his entire presidency).
