Another big White House shakeup is now underway.
For weeks, the rumor around Washington has been that President Trump is seeking a replacement for embattled Chief of Staff John Kelly, who is in hot water for his knowledge about ousted Staff Secretary Rob Porter over allegations he abused his two ex-wives.
Kelly’s story – that he wasn’t aware of the extent of Porter’s abusive behavior – unraveled after FBI Director Christopher Wray contradicted the general’s account of events. Now, President Trump feels betrayed, and he’s looking for an opening to replace the otherwise hard-nosed Chief.
But that’s not the only intrigue currently taking place in the West Wing. National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster is also reportedly on the chopping block.
CNN reports:
A search is quietly being conducted by the Pentagon to see if there is a four-star military job suited for McMaster, these officials said.Several sources told CNN that the push for a replacement comes after months of personal tension between McMaster and Trump. The task of easing McMaster out of his role as national security adviser presents a unique challenge for the White House.
