Michael Moore Applauds Soleimani in Funeral Tweet

Michael Moore, the leftist documentary maker, praised the dead Iranian general Qassem Soleimani for drawing huge crowds of supporters to his funeral.

“Can Anyone Even Name The Chair of the Joint Chiefs?”

The funeral of Qassem Soleimani, the top Iranian military leader who was killed last week in a targeted drone strike by US military forces, recently took place, and the size of the crowds that gathered really impressed Moore.

“Is there an American General for whom millions of us would turn out for his funeral?” Moore asked in a tweet. “Can anyone even name the chair of the Joint Chiefs? We all support those who serve but would we pour into the streets like this?”

Of course, many were quick to mock and ridicule Moore’s rather stupid tweet, with many noting that in oppressive regimes, it wouldn’t be surprising to see huge outpourings of “grief” from the citizenry when those like Soleimani kick the bucket.

Soleimani Crowds are Iranian Propaganda!

The arguments of those who pointed out the slightly less than democratic nature of Iran and Soleimani to Moore, were reinforced by an article in the Washington Post written by Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist. Alinejad warned Westerners to not fall for “Iranian propaganda” and not to take the crowds at face value.

“The media in the Islamic Republic is heavily controlled. Public gatherings are allowed only if they are pro-regime. Critics are jailed or shot,” she explained. She added:

I have more than 4 million followers on various social media networks, and I have received thousands of messages, voice mails and videos from Iranians in cities such as Shiraz, Isfahan, Tehran and even Ahvaz, who are happy about Soleimani’s death. Some complain of the pressure to attend services for him. There are many Iranian voices who think Soleimani was a war criminal, but Western journalists rarely reach out to them. Ironically, the Western media is more skeptical of such state-organized events in other countries, such as Russia or North Korea, but seems to leave its critical sense at the border when it comes to the Islamic Republic. While it’s true that Western correspondents face daunting conditions when it comes to reporting the truth from Iran, that shouldn’t excuse the many times they’ve shown unwarranted gullibility toward the official version of events.

Advocates for Peace Don’t Support Killers

It follows another recent “dramatic” intervention by Moore – he “personally appealed” to the Ayatollah of Iran to “not respond to our assassination of his top General with violence of any kind,” a take that I’m sure the Ayatollah would pay a great deal of attention to.

I understand not wanting another war in the Middle East. America has been bogged down in the region for far too long, and in an ideal world, shouldn’t have to bother with it at all. But Moore is not simply advocating for peace – he is praising someone whose actions have led to the deaths of American, British and other allied troops, and spitting on his own country in the process!

His hot takes should be left back in the early 2000s where they belong. Moore should get off Twitter before he faces any more ridicule!
